Porous Organic Polymers: From Molecular Design to Scalable Technologies

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review introduces porous organic polymers (POPs) for a wide range of applications, including energy storage, gas adsorption, catalysts, adsorbents, biomedical applications, sensors, and other exciting fields, and critically analyzes the synthesis and modification, and how structural topology influences the composites' architecture of POPs, along ...

Care Praxis–Driven STEM Design for Sustainable and Just Communities in Middle School

open access: yesJournal of Research in Science Teaching, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the growing interest in incorporating care ethics into STEM education, these topics are rarely integrated into K‐12 standards and pedagogical practice. We explore how care praxis, a political and ethical approach to STEM education, supports students' sense‐making in addressing real‐world problems throughout STEM design, merging social,

Application Research on Cable Force Optimization of Cable-Stayed Bridge Based on Improved Grey Wolf Algorithm

open access: yesBuildings
For complex structures, the solution process of existing cable force optimization methods for low-tower cable-stayed bridges is characterized by a significant number of matrix operations, which require substantial computing power and time.

Attention‐Based Spatial–Temporal Model for the Entire Indoor Space Temperature Estimation

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
This study proposes a novel attention‐based spatial–temporal model for indoor temperature estimation, which integrates positional encoding and an attention mechanism with a fully connected neural network. By jointly capturing temporal dynamics and spatial correlations, the model enables high‐resolution estimation of temperature fields across the entire

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Seismic performance of cable-stayed bridges under large earthquake ground motions considering the loss of stay cables

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
Stay cables in cable-stayed bridges are essential components to transmit deck loadings. However, cable loss events have been occasionally observed both in service life and under extreme situations like earthquakes.

Estimation of cables’ tension of cable-stayed footbridge using measured natural frequencies

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
This paper presents analysis of cables’ tension of steel cable-stayed footbridge using their field-test natural frequencies. A vibration method is usually used for the measured cable tension during the construction of cable systems stiffened with ...

Road mortality mitigation for red wolves requires a landscape approach

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
In 1980, the red wolf Canis rufus was declared extinct in the wild. However, starting in 1987, a captive breeding program allowed for a reintroduction effort in and around Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge (Alligator River NWR), North Carolina, USA. In 2012 the wild red wolf population peaked at about 120 individuals.
