Cable modems: cable TV delivers the Internet

IEEE Internet Computing, 1998
Cable television networks offer access rates from 56 Kbps up to 10 Mbps to residential Internet users. With viable solutions now available for ingress noise - the major technical obstacle that, has prevented the deployment of CATV systems - network providers are moving to solve remaining issues in the areas of security, service, and reliability and to ...

Cables and Cable Systems

1991
A cable is the simplest continuous underconstrained structural system. Its analytical model is a flexible wire, or a fiber, i.e., a perfectly flexible structural element capable of resisting only one type of force, axial tension. A cable is a variant system, with the exception of a rectilinear configuration with both ends fixed, when it is quasi ...

Influence of cable dampers on cable-stayed bridges

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Bridge Engineering, 2012
Cable-stayed bridges have seen a wider application in recent years, with many having longer and longer spans. Modern cable-stayed bridges use numerous cables to support the stiffening girders. Many cable dampers are installed to mitigate cable vibration.

Submarine cables and cable ships

Electronics and Power, 1985
Despite the proliferation of communications satellites there will always be a place for that original medium for intercontinental communication — the submarine cable.

Appendix A: Cable-to-Cable Coupling

2011
This appendix provides the basic approach to predicting capacitive and inductive cable-to-cable crosstalk based on cable lengths, wire separation, wire heights above ground, load impedances, and frequency. Figures show the circuit representation of capacitive and inductive coupling between parallel wires or circuits.

Smart cabling

Proceedings of the 4th workshop on ACM SIGOPS European workshop, 1990
The Smart Cabling project is a cooperative project of HCS Industrial Automation B.V. and the University of Utrecht. Its aim is to build highly reliable transputer networks, which will be used as message passing system in dynamically changing environments. The theoretical background is provided by research carried out at the University of Utrecht. Using

Power Cables and Submarine Power Cables

Engineering & Technology Reference, 2015
Power cables have been in use in underground and submarine transmission for over a hundred years. With the increased interconnection between lands and integration with power generation from offshore renewable energy, the demand for submarine power cables is getting stronger.

Determination of the Cable Span and Cable Deflection of Cable-Driven Parallel Robots

2017
In this paper, a method is proposed to compute the so-called cable span, i.e. the space occupied by the cables when the robot is moving within its workspace. As the cables are attached to a mostly fixed point on the robot frame, the shape of the cable span is a generalized cone.

Optimization of Cables in Cable Stayed Bridge

2017
Cable-stayed bridges are structural systems which are effectively composed of cables, the main girder and towers and are one of the most popular types of long-span bridges. The structural behaviour of cable-stayed bridges is sensitive to the load distribution between the girder, pylons, and cables.
