Numerical analysis of the dynamic responses of submarine cable pallet under drop impacts considering the interaction between submarine cables and pallet [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Sciences
Evaluating the dynamic responses of submarine cable pallets is of considerable importance in engineering applications. Nevertheless, an effective mechanical model to capture the dynamic responses of the pallet has yet to be developed.

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

New developments in rain–wind-induced vibrations of cables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
On wet and windy days, the inclined cables of cable stayed bridges can experience large amplitude, potentially damaging oscillations known as rain-wind-induced vibration (RWIV).

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Application of a flight-line disk crack detector to a small engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
A disk crack detector was developed and applied to a small military engine for use as a flight-line turbine crack monitor. The system consists of an eddy current type sensor and its cables within the engine, external connecting cables, and a remotely ...
