An Algorithm for Buffer Cache Management
2009 Sixth International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations, 2009This paper proposes an algorithm for buffer cache management with pre-fetching. The buffer cache contains two units, the main cache unit and pre-fetch unit. The sizes of both the units are fixed. The total sizes of both the units are a constant. Blocks are fetched in one block look ahead pre-fetch principle. The block placement and replacement policies

Improving Cache Effectiveness Based on Cooperative Cache Management in MANETs
Wireless Personal Communications, 2017In wireless mobile Ad Hoc networks, cooperative cache management is considered as an efficient technique to increase data availability and improve access latency. This technique is based on coordination and sharing of cached data between nodes belonging to the same area. In this paper, we studied the cooperative cache management strategies.

Fema: A Fairness and Efficiency Caching Management Algorithm in Shared Cache
2014 9th IEEE International Conference on Networking, Architecture, and Storage, 2014This paper is motivated by our three key observations: (1) there exists a degradation of performance as the interleaved accesses of heterogeneous streams, (2) for the slow stream, sequential accesses suffer huge misses in the prefetching cache, (3) in concurrence paradigm, providing fairness and QoS to concurrent streams is very important which always ...

Novel cache management strategy for semantic caching in mobile environment
Proceedings of the 5th international conference on Soft computing as transdisciplinary science and technology - CSTST '08, 2008Recently semantic caching has become very popular due to its novel method for retrieving information. In semantic caching, the cache not only stores the results of the queries, but also stores the semantic description of queries. This strategy provides a good reuse of the cache contents if the results of the queries exactly match the existing semantic ...

Distributed cache management considering content popularity for in-network caching
2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC), 2017This paper proposes a new cache management method considering the popularity of contents for in-network caching. In networks with in-network caching, routers store contents in their cache and users can download them from the routers. By utilizing cached contents, the loads for content servers and networks can be reduced.

The filter cache: a run-time cache management approach
Proceedings 25th EUROMICRO Conference. Informatics: Theory and Practice for the New Millennium, 1999This work presents a new hardware cache management approach for improving the cache hit ratio and reducing the bus traffic. Increasing the L1 cache hit ratio is a crucial aspect of obtaining good performance with the current processors. The proposed approach also increases the overall (L1 plus L2) cache hit ratio, especially in multiprocessor systems ...

PARC: A novel OS cache manager
Software: Practice and Experience, 2018SummaryTo boost input‐output performance, operating systems employ a kernel‐managed caching space called the buffer cache or page cache. Given the limited size of a buffer cache, an effective cache manager is required to decide which blocks should be evicted from the cache.

Enhanced Proxy Caching with Content Management
Knowledge and Information Systems, 2002In this paper, we propose a novel approach to enhancing web proxy caching, an approach that integrates content management with performance tuning techniques. We first develop a hierarchical model for management of web data, which consists of physical pages, logical pages and topics corresponding to different abstraction levels. Content management based

A Self-Managed Predicate-Based Cache
3rd Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'05), 2005Caching is used externally to DB systems to cache data retrieved from a DB in order to reduce delays associated with the network data transfer and to reduce the load on the DB servers. In-memory predicate caches manage data in units that are described by queries' predicates. A self-managed cache utilizes only information that it can garner from queries
