Self-assembly of the cyclic lipopeptide daptomycin: spherical micelle formation does not depend on the presence of calcium chloride [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The cyclic lipopeptide Daptomycin, used as a treatment for infections where antimicrobial resistance is observed, is shown to self-assemble into spherical micelles above a critical aggregation concentration. Micelles are observed either in the absence or

Spleen‐Targeting Biomimetic Hybrid Nanocarriers for Systemic Immune Reprogramming in Colitis: RBC Membrane Vesicle‐Fused Lipid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A spleen‐targeting hybrid nanoplatform (RBCMV‐LNP‐RP) harnessing erythrophagocytosis mimics senescent red blood cell clearance to achieve spleen‐specific delivery of rapamycin. This biomimetic system enables selective accumulation in splenic macrophages, orchestrating systemic immune reprogramming and promoting mucosal healing in an inflammatory bowel ...

Long term in vitro expansion of epithelial stem cells enabled by pharmacological inhibition of PAK1-ROCK-Myosin II and TGF-β signaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Summary: Despite substantial self-renewal capability in vivo, epithelial stem and progenitor cells located in various tissues expand for a few passages in vitro in feeder-free condition before they succumb to growth arrest.

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.

Effect of the number of calcium chloride sprays on 'Jonagold' apple quality

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2013
The aim of this study was to examine effect of frequency of calcium chloride (CaCl2) sprays on 'Jonagold' apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) quality. The experiment was carried out in 1996-1998 in the Experimental Orchard of the Research Institute of ...

Reactivation of ethanol-calcium-isolated cilia from Tetrahymena pyriformis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Cilia isolated from Tetrahymena after ciliary shedding is induced by the addition of CaCl2 or other salts to cells suspended in an ethanol solution (4, 6, 11) have been studied chemically and enzymatically (4, 6, 11, 12, 13), but until now have never ...

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

Adding Blends of NaCl, KCl, and CaCl2 to Low-Sodium Dry Fermented Sausages: Effects on Lipid Oxidation on Curing Process and Shelf Life

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, 2017
The effect of a 50% reduction of NaCl and its replacement by KCl, CaCl2, and a blend of KCl and CaCl2 (1 : 1) on lipid oxidation of dry fermented sausages was investigated. We found that a 50% reduction in NaCl decreased the intensity of the reactions to

CaCl2 Solution Sprayed on Leaves Changes the Nutrition and Qualitative Properties of Pomegranate (Punica granatum L. cv. Hicaznar)

open access: yesYüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tarim Bilimleri Dergisi, 2021
The purpose of this experiment was to define the influence of different doses of calcium chloride (CaCl2) applications on fruit yield, some quality properties, and nutrition of plant in Hicaznar pomegranate cultivar during 2016 and 2017 in Aydın (Turkey)
