Population structure of the broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) in natural and man-made water bodies associated with a silvicultural landscape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) is a South American crocodilian with a wide geographical distribution. Water bodies originally occupied by the species have suffered extreme anthropogenic pressure; however, the broad-snouted caiman has a ...

The respiratory mechanics of the yacare caiman (Caiman yacareDaudine) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2018
The structure and function of crocodilian lungs are unique compared to other reptiles. We examine the extent to which this, and the semi-aquatic lifestyle of crocodilians affect their respiratory mechanics. We measured changes in intratracheal pressure in adult and juvenile caiman (Caiman yacare) during static and dynamic lung volume changes ...

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Cross-species microsatellite amplification in South American Caimans (Caiman spp and Paleosuchus palpebrosus)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2006
Microsatellite DNA markers have been used to assess genetic diversity and to study ecological behavioral characteristics in animals. Although these markers are powerful tools, their development is labor intensive and costly.

Effects of Incubation and Rearing Temperatures on Caiman latirostris Growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Different studies found that incubation temperature has an influence on the size of Caiman latirostris hatchlings and determines their gonadal sex. Experimental manipulations revealed that the effects of temperature on growth are independent of sex ...

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

A Taxa de conversão do alimento (FCR) do Caiman latirostris é mais eficiente a temperaturas mais elevadas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The effects of temperature on the growth of Caiman latirostris were investigated in order to evaluate the efficiency of food conversion at 29 and 33°C. Sixty-eight captive raised animals, two months old, taken from four nests, were used.

Effect of flaxseed and flaxseed oil supplemented in caiman diet on meat fatty acids

open access: yesTropical Animal Health and Production, 2021
Increasing polyunsaturated or long-chain fatty acids in meat for human consumption improves both nutritional quality and consumer perception. The increase could occur through the addition of rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids (such as flaxseed or ...
