From species lists to interactions: Network structure, not richness, guides seed dispersal management in human‐modified islands

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our findings show that management strategies can create fundamentally different seed dispersal regimes, even under similar environmental conditions. Anthropogenic diversification reshapes network organisation into distinct structural configurations, rather than consistently enhancing overall cohesion.

Phylogenetically‐informed estimates of notosuchian (Archosauria, Crocodylomorpha) body size and the challenges of inferring macroevolutionary patterns in extinct groups

open access: yesPalaeontology, Volume 69, Issue 3, 2026.
Abstract Notosuchian crocodylomorphs were predominantly active terrestrial predators, exhibiting a wide range of ecomorphological specializations and body sizes. Given that body size plays an important role in the life history of vertebrates, its accurate estimation for notosuchians is crucial for understanding macroevolutionary and macroecological ...

Inferred presence of extraoral tissues in Triassic archosauromorphs and the evolutionary implications for the clade Sauropsida

open access: yesPalaeontology, Volume 69, Issue 3, 2026.
Abstract Recent work has suggested that the presence of extraoral soft tissues (‘lips’), in the form of labial scales in theropod dinosaurs, could be inferred based on: anteroposteriorly distributed foramina in the rostral bones, similar to extant lepidosaurs; vertically projected teeth; uniform enamel thickness in maxillary teeth; and an allometric ...

Midbrain PAG Astrocytes Modulate Mouse Defensive and Panic‐Like Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
Astrocytes in the midbrain periaqueductal gray (PAG) dynamically encode threat intensity and shape defensive action selection in mice. Real‐time Ca2+ imaging reveals robust astrocytic activation during predator odor and CO2 exposure. Aberrant astrocytic Ca2+ overactivation disrupts goal‐directed escape, biases behavior toward freezing, and induces ...

Size of nesting female Broad-snouted Caimans (Caiman latirostris Daudin 1802) [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2019
Abstract The southern distribution of the Broad-snouted Caiman (Caiman latirostris Daudin 1802) in Argentina occurs in Santa Fe Province, where its population has been under management by “Proyecto Yacaré” since 1990. From 1997 to 2016, we captured 77 nesting female Broad-snouted Caimans in Santa Fe Province. Our results suggest that previously defined

The Case of the Missing Green Iguana Predators: Reviews of Ecological Literature Should Go Beyond Google Scholar

open access: yesThe Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America, Volume 107, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Knowing about species interactions is essential for ecological research, conservation efforts, resource management, and maintaining healthy ecosystems, but many of these, such as reports of predation, may not always be published in easily located resources—if they are published at all.
