A Pollen-Based Assisted Migration for Rapid Forest Adaptation. [PDF]
Climate change poses an unprecedented threat to forest ecosystems, necessitating innovative adaptation strategies beyond conventional assisted migration, which, though promising, is hindered by environmental, phytosanitary, economic, and legal obstacles.

'Chimes of resilience': what makes forest trees genetically resilient? [PDF]
Summary Forest trees are foundation species of many ecosystems and are challenged by global environmental changes. We assemble genetic facts and arguments supporting or undermining resilient responses of forest trees to those changes. Genetic resilience is understood here as the capacity of a species to restore its adaptive potential following ...

Assessment and Sustainability of Logging Operations in Calabrian Pine High Forests [PDF]
Forest mechanisation plays an important role in increasing labour productivity and reducing production costs. This work aims at evaluating various logging scenarios in Calabrian pine high forests, considering technical, economic and environmental aspects.

Fiber Length of Calabrian Pine as Related to Position in Cross Section and Growing Region [PDF]
This paper provides a better understanding of the variation of growing regions and differences in distance from pith to bark on wood fiber lengths. For this aim, Calabrian pines collected from five different growth regions, namely Kahramanmaras, Burdur,

PEASANTS, BRIGANDS, AND THE CHRONOPOLITICS OF THE NEW LEVIATHAN IN THE MEZZOGIORNO
ABSTRACT The image of a backward, archaic South whose barbarian population had remained at a low tier of civilization was a child of Italian unification. Not unlike the Orientalist East, the South that meridionalist discourse brought forth was a “chronotopos”—that is, a time‐space that had supposedly remained in the past.

Abstract Disentangling the relative role of environmental filtering and spatial processes in driving metacommunity structure across mountainous regions remains challenging, as the way we quantify spatial connectivity in topographically and environmentally heterogeneous landscapes can influence our perception of which process predominates.

Abstract In the context of global decline in old‐growth forest, historical ecology is a valuable tool to derive insights into vegetation legacies and dynamics and develop new conservation and restoration strategies. In this cross‐disciplinary study, we integrate palynology (Lago del Pesce record), history, dendrochronology, and historical and ...

The major difference between the Southern Alps and Apennines treeline limit is associated with their mountain aspects. Contrary to what would be expected based on temperature limitation, the elevation of F. sylvatica treelines in the Apennines was higher on colder, pole‐facing slopes than on equator‐facing, warmer mountainsides.

Abstract Aim The proximate ecological and evolutionary processes underlying the high biodiversity of neotropical montane cloud forests are still very poorly understood. Climatic oscillations may have contributed to vicariance and cladogenesis, but also promoted secondary contact and erosion of genetic divergence.
