It will likely play an increasing role as a limiting factor as climate change and human demand make water availability scarcer. However, we lack a knowledge synthesis describing our current understanding of the use of water sources, particularly for wildlife hydration.

Population trends of jaguars in a tropical forest in southern Mexico
Conservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2025.Jaguar density in the largest population in Mesoamerica was similar among sexes but affected by distance from the borders. Overall, jaguars segregate in space and time, highlighting the importance of maintaining a continuous, suitable habitat to allow intraspecific interactions and persistence in the long term.
