Calcic amphiboles in calc-alkaline and alkaline magmas: thermobarometric and chemometric empirical equations valid up to 1,130°C and 2.2 GPa

open access: yesContributions To Mineralogy and Petrology, 2011
The following article presents constraints of the stability of Mg-rich (Mg/(Mg + Fe2+) >0.5) calcic amphibole in both calc-alkaline and alkaline magmas, testing of previous thermobarometers, and formulation of new empirical equations that take into ...

Tschermak fractionation in calc-alkaline magmas: the Eocene Sabzevar volcanism (NE Iran)

open access: yesArabian Journal of Geosciences, 2016
Calc-alkaline arc magmatism at convergent plate margins is volumetrically dominated by metaluminous andesites. Many studies highlighted the importance of differentiation via fractionation processes of arc magmas, but only in the last decades, it has been

Calc-alkaline and alkaline miocene and calc-alkaline recent volcanism in the Southernmost Patagonian Cordillera, Chile

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 1984
Abstract In the southernmost Patagonian Cordillera (south of Lat. 54°45′) previously unrecorded calc-alkaline dacites and andesites, and adjacent alkali-basalts, were dated at 21 and 18 Ma (K-Ar), respectively. In the same area post-glacial low-K calc-alkaline andesites, identified at Isla Cook, represent the southernmost Recent volcanism recorded so

Post-collisional transition from calc-alkaline to alkaline magmatism during transcurrent deformation in the southernmost Dom Feliciano Belt (Braziliano–Pan-African, Uruguay)

open access: yesLithos, 2007
In the southernmost Dom Feliciano Belt of Uruguay, highly fractionated calc-alkaline granites, mildly alkaline granites, shoshonitic volcanics, and peralkaline intrusions and volcanics are spatially and temporal associated with the evolution of shear ...

The genesis of the calc-alkaline rock suite

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1972
Abstract The derivation of an island arc calc-alkaline suite from an alkaline parental magna source is suggested from petrological and mineralogical evidence in the Lesser Antilles. Possible sources are discussed, and a partial melt from the Upper Mantle, rather than a descending oceanic crustal plate preferred.

What Is the "Calc-alkaline Rock Series"?

International Geology Review, 2002
The "calc-alkaline" series of rocks was originally defined in the early 1930s on the basis of the "alkali-lime index" on a combined SiO2 versus (Na2O + K2O) and SiO2 versus CaO plot.

Genesis of the calc-alkaline igneous rock suite

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1968
A high pressure experimental study of the partial melting fields of synthetic high-alumina olivine tholeiite, high-alumina quartz tholeiite, basaltic andesite, andesite, dacite and rhyodacite under dry and wet $$\left( {P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} < P_{{\text{LOAD }}} }

Origin of garnet phenocrysts in calc-alkaline rocks

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1968
A large number of garnet phenocrysts from Palaeozoic rhyodacites and granodiorite porphyrites from Central and Northeastern Victoria have been analyzed using the electron microprobe. These garnets, from an area of several thousand square miles, are very uniform in composition (dominantly almandine, with subordinate pyrope and minor grossular and ...

Phlogopite in calc-alkaline lamprophyres of Northern England

Mineralogy and Petrology, 1994
Phlogopite mica is the major unaltered phase in minette and kersantite dikes in the Cross Fell and Taythes inliers in northwestern England. The compositional zonation trend in the micas from Mg-rich, Cr-bearing cores to Fe, Ti, Ba-rich, low Cr margins, or rims, is similar to that reported for micas from minettes and kersantites worldwide.
