CALCANEAL SPURS

Painful heels have for purposes of treatment been classified into those cases in which a calcaneal spur can be demonstrated roentgenographically and those in which no spur is present. In most cases in which no spur is demonstrable, relief is obtained by the use of well fitting supports applied to the plantar area of the foot which relax the structures.

Calcaneal Spurs in a Black African Population

The radiological incidence of calcaneal spurs in a black African population was studied. Our findings show that spur incidence increased with age and was greater in females than in males. These results, the first from a large, exclusively African population, are similar to those from previous studies of individuals from other continents.
