Displaced fractures of the calcaneous are relatively common injuries that remain a treatment enigma. Virtually all aspects of the management of calcaneal fractures are a source of debate. Contemporary imaging, reduction, and fixation techniques attempt to improve the long term results of these injuries.

Internal Architecture of the Calcaneus: Implications for Calcaneus Fractures
Foot & Ankle International, 2000Study Design Fourteen cadaveri specimens were sectioned to analyze the internal architecture of the human calcaneus. We described the arrangement and orientation of trabecular patterns within the calcaneus and made multiple measurements of its cortical thickness.

Morphometric Dimensions of the Calcaneus
The Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2020Calcaneal morphometric dimensions influence surgical treatment plans after injury. These dimensions display population heterogeneity, and there is a paucity of data in the setting of our hospital in Kenya. Further, estimation of calcaneal dimensions during reconstruction in comminuted fractures can be difficult.

Compression fractures of the calcaneus are serious injuries, because of the frequent derangement of the upper articular facets. Because the interpretation of the broken fragments is difficult, a study was undertaken to determine the significance of the various lines seen in the lateral and plantar roentgenograms of the normal bone; with the knowledge ...

Fractures of the calcaneus account for approximately 60 per cent of all tarsal injuries and 1 to 2 per cent of all diagnosed fractures. The length of treatment and rehabilitation and disability has a marked effect on the working population. This helps to explain the great disparity in the classification and treatment of calcaneal fractures.

This communication reports an unusual radiological finding in a patient with familial hyperlipaemia. Some aspects of the literature pertaining to this condition are discussed. A 38-year-old white female presented with angina-like pains of 13 years' duration. There was a strong family history of myocardial infarctions.

Treatment of Chronic Osteomyelitis of the Calcaneus by Resection of the Calcaneus
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1974For chronic osteomyelitis of the calcaneus, total or partial resection was done in twenty patients. There was one post-anesthetic death. The results in eighteen patients were satisfactory in that the infection was eradicated and the patients were able to walk again, with or without orthopaedic shoes.

Chondromyxoid Fibroma of the Calcaneus
Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2007Chondromyxoid fibroma is a rare, benign, aggressive bone tumor whose localization in the calcaneus is even rarer. We report a case of chondromyxoid fibroma in the calcaneus of a 10-year-old Iranian boy who was treated with extended curettage. After 3 years of follow-up, the patient had experienced no recurrence.

Primary xanthoma in foot bones is an extremely rare event. In an individual without a family history of hyperlipemia, it is even a rarer finding. One case of a xanthoma of a calcaneus is presented in an otherwise asymptomatic 19-year-old normal lipidemic female. The previous literature is reviewed.
