Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Almost billfish: convergent longirostry, micro-dentition, and possible glandular sinuses in a large teleost fish from the Upper Cretaceous of Northern Italy. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Anat
A fossil rostrum fragment of a large teleost fish from the Upper Cretaceous of Northern Italy reveals remarkable anatomical convergences with Cenozoic and Recent billfishes (marlins, swordfishes, and akin). The extinct group Plethodidae independently acquired a long snout, micro‐teeth, and oil‐gland sinuses well before the evolution of true billfishes.

Hydrous Carbonatitic Liquids Drive CO2 Recycling From Subducted Marls and Limestones

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 209-221., 2020

This book is Open Access. A digital copy can be downloaded for free from Wiley Online Library.

Explores the behavior of carbon in minerals, melts, and fluids under extreme conditions

Carbon trapped in diamonds and carbonate-bearing rocks in subduction zones are examples of the continuing exchange of substantial carbon ...

CRETACEOUS MICROFOSSIL (FORAMINIFERA AND CALCAREOUS NANOFOSSILS) ASSEMBLAGES FROM THE SUBSURFACE MAGALLANES BASIN, TIERRA DEL FUEGO ISLAND, CHILE

open access: yesPublicación Electrónica de la Asociación Paleontológica Argentina, 2020
Foraminifera and calcareous nannofossils were studied in washed drill-cuttings of three wells from the Chilean sector of the Magallanes Basin. This contribution aims to identify, characterize and illustrate microfossil assemblages throughout the ...

Calcareous nannofossils at the upper part of Gurpi Formation and the lower part of Pabdeh Formation at Arkavaz section, south east Ilam [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stratigraphy and Sedimentology Researches, 2019
In this study the Paleocene sediments have been investigated at the upper part of Gurpi Formation and the lower part of Pabdeh Formation at Arkavaz section in southeast of Ilam.

Biostratigraphy and Paleoenvironmental Reconstruction at the Gebel Nezzazat (Central Sinai, Egypt): A Paleocene Record for the Southern Tethys

open access: yesGeosciences, 2022
The variations in assemblages of calcareous nannofossils are tracked in the Dakhla and Tarawan Formations exposed at Gebel Nezzazat (central Sinai, Egypt). Five calcareous nannofossil biozones, namely NP2/3, NP4, NP5, NP6, and NP7/8 are identified.

The early/middle Eocene transition at the Ésera valley (South Central Pyrenees): Implications in Shallow Benthic Zones (SBZ)

open access: yesGeologica Acta, 2022
An integrated study including magnetostratigraphy, larger benthic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy is presented herein. This work was performed in shallow marine siliciclastics rich in larger foraminifera, around the Ypresian ...

Lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy of the upper cretaceous succession of Southeastern Sinai, Egypt

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Petroleum, 2011
The calcareous nannofossil of the Upper Cretaceous successions exposed at Taba and El sheikh Attia sections at Southeastern Sinai in Egypt have been studied to contribute in the understanding of lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy.

Calcareous nannofossil and ammonite integrated biostratigraphy across the Jurassic – Cretaceous boundary strata of the Kopanitsa composite section (West Srednogorie Unit, southwest Bulgaria)

open access: yesGeologica Carpathica, 2018
Calcareous nannofossil, calpionellid and ammonite occurrences have been directly constrained across the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary interval in the section of Kopanitsa, SW Bulgaria.
