A REVISED METHOD FOR OBSERVING THE SAME NANNOFOSSIL SPECIMENS WITH SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE AND LIGHT MICROSCOPE

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2018
A new method for the observation of the same nannofossil specimens with scanning electron microscope and light microscope, involving the use of a grid, is described.

Sea‐Level and Frontal Controls on Diatom Deposition During the Mid‐Pleistocene Transition, Southern Cape Basin

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract The Indian‐Atlantic Ocean Gateway modulates interocean exchange and influences large‐scale ocean circulation, including the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. Site U1479 (Cape Basin; IODP Expedition 361) lies at the Benguela‐Agulhas transition and records interactions among the Indian, Atlantic, and Southern Ocean basins during the ...

CALIBRATION OF THE PLIENSBACHIAN-TOARCIAN CALCAREOUS NANNOFOSSIL ZONE BOUNDARIES BASED ON AMMONITES (BASQUE-CANTABRIAN AREA, SPAIN)

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2004
Based on a continuous succession of ammonite and calcareous nannofossil assemblages, the main purpose of this paper is the correlation between ammonite and calcareous nannofossil zone boundaries in two expanded sections from the Basque-Cantabrian area ...

Late Campanian (74–71 Ma) Arabia–Eastern Anatolia Collision and Its Geodynamic Implications

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract The East Anatolian Plateau is a major collisional feature within the Tethyan realm formed as a late‐stage result of the collision between East Anatolia and the Arabian Platform. The timing of this collision is highly debated, with estimates from the Late Cretaceous to the Miocene.

Calcareous nannofossils and Mesozoic oceanic anoxic events

open access: yesMarine Micropaleontology, 2004
Abstract Twenty-five years ago, Mesozoic oceanic anoxic events (OAEs) were documented and formalised as intervals of widespread to global deposition of organic matter. The Toarcian, Early Aptian (OAE1a) and latest Cenomanian (OAE2) OAEs are truly global in nature, commonly carbonate-poor, and typically represented by organic carbon-rich black shales.

Timing of the Albano‐Hellenic Paleomagnetic Rotation

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract The Aegean arc is the most prominent Mediterranean salient, characterized by significant paleomagnetic rotations along its limbs. Although it is well‐established that the external Ionian and Kruja zones of the Albano‐Hellenides underwent a ∼40° post‐Oligocene clockwise (CW) rotation relative to Africa/Adria, the rotation timing remains debated.

Minimal Perturbation of the Global Mercury Cycle by the Paraná–Etendeka Large Igneous Province (PE–LIP) During the Onset of the Valanginian Weissert Event

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract The Valanginian positive carbon isotope excursion (Weissert Event, ca. 135 million years ago) documents a major global carbon cycle and climate perturbation. Radioisotopic dating suggests that this event was broadly contemporaneous with an interval of profoundly enhanced volcanic activity during the emplacement of the Paraná–Etendeka Large ...
