Transgressions, climatic change and the diversity of calcareous nannoplankton

Marine Geology, 1973
Abstract Plankton-diversity models of various authors are examined in the light of available diversity data on calcareous nannoplankton. To account for the diversity peaks during times of widespread epicontinental seas in the Mesozoic and Tertiary, a new explanation is given.

Approach to Paleobiodiversity: Mesozoic Calcareous Nannoplankton: Preface

Micropaleontology, 2005
“ La Terre est bleue comme une orange ” — Paul Eluard, 1929, L’amour la Poesie The coccolithophorids are truly exceptional life forms. The smallest organisms able to secrete a skeleton, they have opted for biological complexity and ecological flexibilty, and seem to have ensured their destiny as vital participants in the most fundamental processes ...

Mesozoic calcareous nannoplankton biostratigraphy of marine sediments

Marine Micropaleontology, 1976
Abstract Calcareous nannofossils are becoming increasingly important in Mesozoic biostratigraphy due to their great abundance and ease of preparation. Paleoenvironmental restriction and time-transgressiveness of geographic distribution patterns of certain taxa are evident.

The pleistocene calcareous nannoplankton of the subantarctic Pacific Ocean

Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1972
Abstract The stratigraphic distribution and relative frequencies of Pleistocene calcareous nannoplankton from eight subantarctic cores and one subotropical core have been determined. The extinction and first appearance of certain species allow the division of the Pleistocene into four zones.

Calcareous nannoplankton response to a high CO2 world

2022

Paleogene calcareous nannoplankton biostratigraphy of northwestern Europe

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 1986
Abstract The classic Paleogene stages (Thanetian, Cuisian, Lutetian, Bartonian, Ludian and Stampian) defined in the epicontinental deposits of the Anglo-Paris Basin(s) are placed within a standard biostratigraphic framework based on an analysis of their calcareous nannoplankton floras. Relatively precise biostratigraphic correlations can be made with

Calcareous nannoplankton evolution: a tale of two oceans

Micropaleontology, 2005
Calcareous nannoplankton diversity, evolutionary rates and species longevity show markedly different characters above and below the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary. Excluding mass extinction events, and the initial origination and radiation, Mesozoic nannoplankton diversity is characterized by relatively continuous increase with low background ...
