Simple settling velocity formula for calcareous sand
Journal of Hydraulic Research, 2013From the analysis of 1557 calcareous sand grains, a new equation for the computation of particle settling velocity is derived. The proposed expression involves only the dimensionless particle diameter and the Reynolds number, meaning that the estimation of the settling velocity is quick and easy.

Simple Shear Behavior of Calcareous and Quartz Sands
Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, 2010The monotonic and cyclic simple shear behavior of several loose skeletal calcareous sands is investigated and compared to that of common Nevada and Ottawa quartz sands in order to draw contrasts between these types of materials and to develop stiffness and modulus degradation curves for quasi-nonlinear ground response analysis.

Calcareous Sands of the Israeli Coastal Plain
1982A large portion of the Mediterranean coastal plain of Israel is overlain by thick deposits of calcareous sands, sometimes cemented to varying degrees and forming a cemented sand known locally as kurkar. The paper presents a review of the geotechnical properties of these deposits, and methods used to evaluate them.

Skin Friction of Driven Piles in Calcareous Sands
Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1989The skin friction mobilized along the shaft of driven precast concrete piles in dense calcareous sands was determined by field tests on two piles at one site in Kuwait. The results are compared with data obtained from tests on bored piles in the same soil deposit.

Pile Capacity in Calcareous Sands: State if the Art
Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1987Driven piles in calcareous sands may have only a small fraction of the capacity of driven piles in noncarbonate sands. This has become a particular problem in the offshore and coastal areas of Australia, India, Saudi Arabia, and the Caribbean. The great expense of load tests and/or remedial measures has caused many offshore operators to turn to drilled
