A comparison of ceramic and carbon‐based reductants for vitrification of low‐activity waste

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Sucrose is the current baseline additive at the Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant in Washington to control foaming during waste feed to glass transitions and the redox state of the glass melt. Alternative reductants are being investigated to alleviate strain on effluent treatment from toxic acetonitrile production from ...

Mullite production by valorization of a hydrodesulphurization catalyst waste

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Due to its high alumina and silica content, Ni–Mo catalyst waste is a suitable, amorphous raw material for producing aluminosilicate phases. Thermal treatment of the waste at 1200°C for 30 min yields a material containing 50 wt.% mullite and exhibiting 96% overall crystallinity. The addition of amorphous silica significantly enhances mullite formation:

Structural Changes during the Calcination of Petroleum Coke (Part 1)

open access: yesTANSO, 1978
The effect of temperature and holding time on structural changes during the calcination of raw petroleum cokes was studied by means of X-ray diffraction, microscopic.observations, density measurements and elementary analysis. From the microscopic observation, it was found that the formation of pores and cracks during calcination depends strongly on the ...
