The Problem of Formation Destruction in Carbon Dioxide Storage: A Microscopic Model

open access: yesAlgorithms
In the context of the current global transition toward low-carbon energy, the issue of CO2 utilization has become increasingly important. One of the most promising natural targets for CO2 sequestration is the terrigenous sedimentary formations found in ...

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Amphibalanus amphitrite begins exoskeleton mineralization within 48 hours of metamorphosis

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2020
Barnacles are ancient arthropods that, as adults, are surrounded by a hard, mineralized, outer shell that the organism produces for protection. While extensive research has been conducted on the glue-like cement that barnacles use to adhere to surfaces ...

Coagulated Mineral Adsorbents for Dye Removal, and Their Process Intensification Using an Agitated Tubular Reactor (ATR)

open access: yesChemEngineering, 2021
The aim of this study was to understand the efficacy of widely available minerals as dual-function adsorbers and weighter materials, for the removal of toxic azo-type textile dyes when combined with coprecipitation processes. Specifically, the adsorption

Unraveling the Power of Disorder: A Bioinspired Cuttlebone Structure With Superior Strength, Energy Absorption and Isotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired architected metamaterials introduce controlled structural disorder to simultaneously enhance strength, energy absorption, and compressive stability. Tunable disorder suppresses shear anisotropy, outperforms periodic lattices, and establishes discrete randomness as a robust route to high‐performance lightweight mechanical ...

The Role of the Microbial Community in Mineral Formation in the Thermal Springs of the Baikal Region [PDF]

open access: yesЖурнал Сибирского федерального университета: Серия Биология, 2018
Alkaline nitrogen thermal springs characterised by high temperatures and pH values are extreme habitats in the Baikal area. Microbial mats are prokaryotic communities consisting of photosynthetic cyanobacteria and a range of other aerobic and anaerobic ...

The Effect of Demineralization on Coal Functional Group Pyrolysis: Rank‐Dependent Dual Mechanisms of Structural Reorganization and Mineral Catalysis

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Coal pyrolysis, as a key thermochemical conversion process, is significantly influenced by inherent minerals, yet their role across different coal ranks remains inadequately understood. This study investigates the effect of acid‐washing (demineralization) on the thermal decomposition of six functional groups (aliphatic C–H, aromatic C–H/C=C, C=

Characterization of a complex carbonate-silicate apatite ore and its concentration by a two-stage anionic flotation method

open access: yesREM: International Engineering Journal, 2022
A carbonate-silicate low weathering phosphate ore from an igneous origin deposit in Southeastern Brazil presents a challenge mainly for apatite flotation from its gangue minerals, calcite and dolomite, plus the presence of phlogopite, diopside, magnetite,

Sustainable Graphene Oxide–Intercalated Bentonite Composite for the Effective Removal of Imidacloprid From Water: Adsorption Performance, Isotherm, and Kinetics

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Water is a fundamental necessity for our existence, but its rapid contamination is causing devastating effects on the environment and health of living species worldwide. Adsorptive removal of pollutants is one of the popular water treatment techniques because of its simplicity, affordability, and the broad range of available adsorbents.
