Investigation of the milling route for the development of colloidal suspensions to be used as binder in refractory castables

open access: yesOpen Ceramics, 2023
Refractories castables bonded with CAC (calcium aluminate cement) have a limitation when they are used at high temperature in micro-silica containing system and/or in acidic corrosive environments.

Cementitious Additives for Chloride Ion Immobilization of Flue Gas Desulfurization Brine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Waste management in coal‐fired power plants presents a significant industrial challenge. Co‐disposal of flue gas desulfurization sludge and reject fly ash (RFA) requires solidification/stabilization before landfilling, due to high concentrations of toxic heavy metals and salts.

Hypothesis generation from pragmatic causal relationships for latent knowledge reasoning in the civil engineering domain

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 29, Page 5447-5473, 9 December 2025.
Abstract Structural health monitoring (SHM) research generates vast amount of information, especially as unstructured data formats. To date, most natural language processing (NLP) applications focus on extracting information (syntactic or semantic level) rather than providing latent knowledge and generating newer information (pragmatic level).

Microstructure development in mixes of calcium aluminate cement with silica fume or fly ash

open access: yes, 2009
The most widely identified degradation process suffered by calcium aluminate cement (CAC) is the so-called conversion of hexagonal calcium aluminate hydrate to cubic form.

Aqueous Carbonation of Calcium Silicates With Different Ca/Si Ratios Studied by Solid‐State NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Chemistry, Volume 63, Issue 7, Page 476-494, July 2025.
Six calcium silicates with Ca/Si ratios from 1 to 3 have been exposed to aqueous carbonation at ambient conditions and characterized by 29Si and 13C MAS and CP/MAS NMR spectroscopy. The analysis reveals that the structure and composition of the produced silica gel is independent of the starting materials Ca/Si ratio.
