The interfacial processes between calcium—bentonite zinc ion

Colloids and Surfaces, 1988
Abstract The interfacial reaction between calcium-bentonite zinc ion was studied by a radioisotopic tracer method. Both the quantity of zinc ions incorporated into the solid and the quantity of calcium ions leaving the solid were determined. A comparison of the two quantities and the Langmuir representation obtained suggest that other processes can ...

Effect of Slag on Shear Strength of Calcium Bentonite

1997
This study was undertaken to determine the strength of calcium bentonite as affected by cement and slag. Test specimens were prepared with 15% calcium bentonite, 5%to 15% cement, and 7.5% to 10% slag. Undrained triaxial compression tests and unconfined compression tests were performed on different mixes.

Thermodynamics of Copper(II)—Calcium Exchange on Bentonite Clay

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1970
Abstract Thermodynamic parameters were derived for the exchange reaction between Cu(II) and calcium on bentonite clay in systems essentially devoid of precipitation, hydroxylation, and complex formation. Although the exchange isotherms showed preference of clay for calcium this proved to be only apparent since a large component of the

Thermodynamics of potassium exchange in calcium bentonite (Ca‐b)

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1995
Abstract Potassium (K) sorption by calcium bentonite is influenced by temperature variations. In the present investigation, the kinetics of K adsorption from a solution to exchangeable sites of clay were studied using bentonite samples which had been saturated with calcium (Ca) in the form of CaCl2.

The role of calcium bentonite as a delivery carrier for an antihypertensive drug

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects
Clays and clay minerals have been widely used as carriers for drug delivery due to their properties such as cation exchange capacity, adsorption, and biocompatibility. In this study, a new drug release system was obtained by adsorption of amiloride hydrochloride on calcium bentonite (CaBent).

Diffusion of calcium chloride in a modified bentonite

Chemically modified bentonites are being developed with the aim of preserving low hydraulic conductivity in the presence of potentially aggressive permeants in pollutant-containment applications. "Multiswellable" bentonite (MSB) has been obtained by treating standard sodium bentonite with propylene carbonate.

Calcium Carbonate Content of Various Bentonites Used in GCLs

2013
A practical method is described to determine the carbonate content of the bentonites used in geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs). The determination of the carbonate content of bentonite uses a reactor wherein hydrochloric acid (HCl) is mixed with the bentonite specimen in a closed vessel. After activation, the reaction creates carbon dioxide (CO2) pressure
