Nitridogermanates(IV): The Germanide Oxide Sr15Ge[GeN4]3O, the Carbodiimide Ba5[GeN4][CN2], and the Oxidonitridogermanate Sr6[Ge2N6O]

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
During synthesis of nitridogermanates, oxygen and carbon impurities lead to a variety of novel compounds—comprising carbodiimides and oxides—significantly expanding the chemistry of this compound class. Various novel compounds have been encountered by serendipity, due to small oxygen or carbon impurities, during the explorative studies to explore the ...

Production of arsenical bronze using speiss on the Elephantine Island (Aswan, Egypt) during the Middle Kingdom (Middle Bronze Age) (c.2000–1650 BCE)

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper presents the first direct evidence of the slags produced during the cementation alloying process of Cu with speiss inside ceramic crucibles, thus representing Cu alloying with As in Middle Kingdom Egypt. The settlement deposits from the Middle Bronze Age were excavated on Elephantine Island, within modern Aswan.

Bi‐Layered Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Bone Substitute to Improve Bone Formation in Lateral Jaw Defects Applying the Principle of Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR)—A Pre‐Clinical Randomized Controlled Study

open access: yesClinical Oral Implants Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the application of a synthetic bi‐layered biphasic calcium‐phosphate (BBCP) bone substitute for its capacity for new bone formation in Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) in an acute‐defect model in Beagle dogs. Material and Methods Standardized bone defects were created following the extraction of the maxillary 1P1, 2P2, 4P4 and ...

Surgical Treatment of Peri‐Implantitis Combined With Keratinized Mucosa Augmentation: Results of a Dual‐Center 3‐Year RCT

open access: yesClinical Oral Implants Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the medium‐term efficacy of using a xenogeneic collagen matrix to augment the width of the peri‐implant keratinized mucosa (PIKM) as an adjunct to the surgical treatment of peri‐implantitis. Material and Methods In this 36‐month parallel‐arm randomized controlled clinical trial, patients with peri‐implantitis were randomly ...

Evaluation of alveolar bone preservation and oxidative stress reduction with açai in Wistar rats with induced apical periodontitis

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim This study aimed to investigate the effects of açai on bone and systemic damage caused by apical periodontitis (AP) in an animal model. Methodology In this experimental study, 32 male Wistar rats were randomly allocated into six groups—Control 14 days (n = 4), Control 28 days (n = 4), AP 14 days (n = 4), AP 28 days (n = 4), AP plus açai ...

Optimization method for self‐healing improver in fiber‐reinforced ceramics using SiC healing agent

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract An optimization method for lowering the effective self‐healing temperature of fiber‐reinforced self‐healing ceramics (shFRC) was investigated using B4C as a self‐healing improver. B4C was selected based on its ability to oxidize at lower temperatures than SiC, a typical self‐healing agent.

Impacts of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) concentrations on key high‐level waste glass properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the effects of chromium concentration and redox on simulated high‐level waste (HLW) borosilicate glass properties for high‐chromium Hanford wastes. Thirty glasses with target 1 ≤ Cr2O3 ≤ 2.5 wt% were fabricated and analyzed.

Examining the effect of temperature on steam oxidized silicon bond coats

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Abstract The SiO2 thermally grown oxide (TGO) is a life‐limiting factor for environmental barrier coatings (EBCs). EBCs in aeroengines face a variety of operating temperatures so the resulting effect on SiO2’s crystallinity and growth are necessary to better understand EBC failure.

Bio‐inspired damage‐tolerant alumina‐based layered ceramics through rapid sintering

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Strategy to enhance damage tolerance in alumina‐based ceramics through a layered architecture with tailored microstructure using rapid sintering. Abstract Layered ceramics have proved effective under contact damage or thermal shock, associated with the effect of compressive residual stresses and/or textured microstructure against surface crack ...

From polymer to SiOC glass: structure, microstructure, mechanical, and thermal properties

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Abstract The transformation of a methyl‐siloxane into a SiOC glass in Ar and reactive CO2 atmosphere was studied through positron annihilation spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, density, and calorimetric measurements, whereas the mechanical properties were monitored by nanoindentation and the thermal diffusivity measured by the laser flash method ...
