It is demonstrated that a recent suggestion regarding the alleged existence of a fifth crystal modification of calcium carbide was based on an erroneous interpretation of an X‐ray pattern. Doubt is also expressed as to a suggested molar volume for cuprous acetylide.

Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1998Abstract Plasma synthesis of calcium carbide was investigated using calcium oxide and graphite powders. A semi-batch spout-fluid bed reactor with a DC plasma torch was used for the study.
