Nonlinear beam-dynamics calculations with an illustrative example

Physical Review A, 1992
Nonlinear beam-dynamics calculations are described that account for space-charge and image-charge effects. The calculation technique is explained and, as an illustration, is applied to two elements in an intense beam-combining funnel: an rf rebuncher and an rf deflector.

Examples Calculated By Hand

1995
Abstract The use and proliferation of brushless permanent-magnet motors over the past ten years or so has been largely application-specific without any standardization. For example, the motors used in computer hard disc storage drives have been designed to keep pace with developments in the disc drive.

Examples for Calculating Path Integrals

1992
We now want to compute the kernel K(b, a) for a few simple Lagrangians. We have already found for the one-dimensional case that $$\displaystyle{ K{\bigl (x_{2},t_{2};x_{1},t_{1}\bigr )} =\int _{ x(t_{1})=x_{1}}^{x(t_{2})=x_{2} }[dx(t)]\,\text{e}^{(\mathrm{i}/\hslash )S} }$$ (19.1) with $$\displaystyle{ S =\int _{ t_{1}}^{t_{2} }dt\,L(x ...

Calculating the Compensator: Method and Example

1991
Let X t , t ≥ 0 be a real-valued stochastic process on a complete probability space (Ω, F, P), adapted to a right-continuous filtration F t containing all P-null sets. We recall from [2, VII, 23] that X t is an F t -semimartingale if it can be expressed X t = X 0 + M t + A t , where M t is a local martingale of F t , M 0 = 0, and A t is a right ...

An Example “Retirement” Planning Calculation

2015
Much current advertising asks “How much savings will you need for your retirement?” One personal benefit for our students from this course should be to learn how to estimate such a future need and to calculate a cash flow to reach that goal. It should be obvious that if savings grow 4 % while the CPI increases 5 %, value has been lost.
