Interpreting compositional zonation of the Zaragoza ignimbrite from Los Humeros caldera, Central Mexico

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2008
Compositional zonation in ignimbrites is relatively common, and is often inferred to record gradual withdrawal by an eruption of a density-stratified magma chamber (with silicic magma towards the top and more dense, mafic magma at the bottom). We show that this model does not match observations at the ca.

Sassolite Precipitation at the Restless Campi Flegrei Volcano in Italy Points to Hydrothermal Flashing by Deep Boron‐Rich Brines

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Studying the behavior of dormant volcanoes is a major challenge in volcanology. Here, we conducted a 10‐year survey of hydrothermal mineralization at Campi Flegrei, an active volcano near Naples in Italy, which last erupted in 1538. Our survey revealed a significant output of boric acid at the hydrothermal sulfate discharge area of Pisciarelli,

Hydrothermal Signatures Discovered in Outcropping Rocks of the Los Humeros Geothermal Field (Mexico): A Geochemometric Exploration Case Study

open access: yesGeofluids, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Hydrothermal geochemical signatures in outcropping rock samples of the super‐hot Los Humeros geothermal field were discovered by using an integrated geochemometric study of the mobility of components (major oxides) and trace elements. Chemical component and element mobilities were determined by using the Gresens–Grant equation for mass balances.

A fracture flow permeability and stress dependency simulation applied to multi-reservoirs, multi-production scenarios analysis

open access: yesGeothermal Energy, 2019
The use of the subsurface and the exploitation of subsurface resources require prior knowledge of fluid flow through fracture networks. For nuclear waste disposal, for the enhancement of hydrocarbon recovery from a field, or the development of an ...
