Joint Calibration Estimator for dual frame surveys [PDF]
Many dual frame estimators have been proposed in the statistics literature. Some of these estimators are theoretically optimal but hard to apply in practice, whereas others are applicable but have larger variances than the first group. In this paper, a Joint Calibration Estimator (JCE) is proposed that is simple to apply in practice and meets many ...

This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Some Calibration Estimators of the Mean of a Sensitive Variable Under Measurement Error
This study explores the estimation of the mean of a sensitive variable using calibration estimators under measurement error. Three randomized response techniques are evaluated: Partial Randomized Response Technique, Compulsory Randomized Response ...

The Performance of Multivariate Calibration on Ratios, Means and Proportions
In this paper, the calibration approach is revisited in order to allow new calibration weights that are subject to the restriction of multiple calibration equations on a vector of ratios, means and proportions.

Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Improved Direct Estimators for Small Areas
Unbiased direct estimators for small area quantities are usually considered too variable to be of any practical use. In this paper we propose a class of model-based direct estimators for small area quantities that appears to overcome this objection, in ...

Regression calibration for Cox regression under heteroscedastic measurement error - Determining risk factors of cardiovascular diseases from error-prone nutritional replication data [PDF]
For instance nutritional data are often subject to severe measurement error, and an adequate adjustment of the estimators is indispensable to avoid deceptive conclusions.
