One generalist or several specialists? Comparative analysis of the polyphagous butterfly Adelpha serpa celerio and its serpa‐group relatives

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 52, Issue 5, Page 475-493, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Patterns of larval food plant use and immature stage morphology help clarify Neotropical butterfly species diversity, and, in many cases, lineages identified with molecular data are corroborated by morphology and ecology of immature stages. Here, we investigate cryptic species in Adelpha butterflies (Nymphalidae), a group known for challenging

African sandstorms, blood rain and continental mineral delivery to the Canary Islands

open access: yesGeology Today, Volume 38, Issue 6, Page 218-229, November/December 2022., 2022
The origin of volcanism in the Canary Islands has been a matter of controversy for decades. Discussions have hinged on whether the Canaries owe their origin to seafloor fractures associated with the Atlas Mountain range or to an underlying plume or hotspot of uprising hot material from the deep mantle.

Vision Defense: Efficient Antibacterial AIEgens Induced Early Immune Response for Bacterial Endophthalmitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 9, Issue 25, September 5, 2022., 2022
A cationic aggregation‐induced emission luminogen (TTPy) to treat bacterial endophthalmitis (BE), which can selectively kill bacteria without obvious cytotoxicity, is presented. TTPy exhibits outstanding antibacterial ability and alleviates the inflammation in BE due to its induced innate immune response.

Effects of Banana Plantation Pesticides on the Immune Response of Lepidopteran Larvae and Their Parasitoid Natural Enemies

open access: yesInsects, 2012
Basic research on the insect immune response has progressed dramatically within the last two decades, showing that immunity is one of the most effective defenses against foreign invaders.

Foraging Behavior of the Blue Morpho and Other Tropical Butterflies: The Chemical and Electrophysiological Basis of Olfactory Preferences and the Role of Color

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, 2012
Inside a live butterfly exhibit, we conducted bioassays to determine whether the presence of color would facilitate the location of attractants by the butterflies.

Effects on human transcriptome of mutated BRCA1 BRCT domain: A microarray study

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2012
Background BRCA1 (breast cancer 1, early onset) missense mutations have been detected in familial breast and ovarian cancers, but the role of these variants in cancer predisposition is often difficult to ascertain.

On bounded solutions of differential systems

open access: yesВестник КазНУ. Серия математика, механика, информатика, 2022
The question of the existence of bounded solutions on an infinite interval of a linear inhomogeneous system of ordinary differential equations in a finite-dimensional space is considered. The study of bounded solutions of systems of ordinary differential

A Tailored Artificial Biocatalyst for Bacterial Endophthalmitis Therapy via Enhanced Ferroptosis-Like Death. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
A tailored bio‐targeted catalytic strategy based on a bacteria‐specific artificial biocatalyst (MoS2/Fe@mercaptophenylboronic acid@hyaluronic acid, MFBH) is proposed for treating bacterial endophthalmitis. This strategy exhibits high‐efficiency peptidoglycan‐targeted bactericidal efficacy in vivo following a single intravitreal injection of an ...

A case-only study to identify genetic modifiers of breast cancer risk for BRCA1/BRCA2 mutation carriers

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Breast cancer risk for BRCA1/BRCA2 mutation carriers varies depending on other genetic factors. Here, the authors perform a case-only genome-wide association study and highlight novel loci associated with breast cancer risk for BRCA1/BRCA2 mutation ...
