Butterfly Fauna of Central Panama During an El Niño Period: Preliminary Insights on Diversity Patterns

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Panama’s rich butterfly diversity, owing to its position as a biological bridge between North America and South America, remains insufficiently documented. To contribute faunistic data from this region, we conducted a noninvasive modified Pollard walk survey of adult butterflies over 20 days, between May 20 and June 14, 2023, focusing on central Panama:

Genome-wide association and transcriptome studies identify target genes and risk loci for breast cancer

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Over 170 susceptibility loci have been identified by genome-wide association studies in breast cancer. Here, the authors interrogated the role of risk-associated variants from non-breast tissue, and using expression quantitative trait loci, identify ...

Collagen‐Electrohydrodynamic Hierarchical Lithography for Biomimetic Photonic Micro‐Nanomaterials

open access: yesSmall, Volume 20, Issue 42, October 17, 2024.
Development of a hybrid bottom–up and top–down bionano‐engineering lithography for fabrication of hierarchical 3D micronano‐architectures via electrohydrodynamic micro‐nanopatterning and guided assembly of collagen building‐blocks as templating intermediates.

Identification of four novel susceptibility loci for oestrogen receptor negative breast cancer

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Oestrogen negative breast cancer is associated with a poor prognosis. In this study, the authors perform a meta-analysis of 11 breast cancer genome-wide association studies and identify four new loci associated with oestrogen negative breast cancer risk.

Wing pattern diversity in Eunica butterflies (Nymphalidae: Biblidinae): phylogenetic analysis implies decoupled adaptive trends in dorsal sexual dimorphism and ventral eyespot evolution

open access: yesCladistics, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 1-20, February 2024.
Abstract Butterfly eyespots are wing patterns reminiscent of vertebrate eyes, formed by concentric rings of contrastingly coloured scales. Eyespots are usually located close to the wing margin and often regarded as the single most conspicuous pattern element of butterfly wing colour displays.

Shared heritability and functional enrichment across six solid cancers

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Similarities in cancers can be studied to interrogate their etiology. Here, the authors use genome-wide association study summary statistics from six cancer types based on 296,215 cases and 301,319 controls of European ancestry, showing that solid ...

Ciclo de vida de las especies Caligo memno (Lepidóptera: Brassolinae) y Heliconius ismenius (Lepidóptera: Heliconinae) bajo condiciones controladas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Honduras is a country with a great diversity of butterflies and moths, their singularity, beauty and colors makes us work these insects as a non-lumbering forest resource that may be used in the country for its high biodiversity, which has been ...
