Call-Burst Blocking Probabilities of ON-OFF Traffic Sources under the Bandwidth Reservation Policy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We calculate call and burst blocking probabilities (CBP and BBP respectively) in a single link loss system accommodating service-classes of ON-OFF traffic calls, either of high or low bandwidth requirements. To benefit high speed calls the bandwidth reservation (BR) policy is considered (ON-OFF/BR model).

Call Blocking Probability and Bandwidth Utilization of OFDM Subcarrier Allocation in Next-generation Wireless Networks

open access: yes, 2010
[[abstract]]Various studies have devised OFDM subcarrier-allocation schemes in next-generation wireless networks. However, the subcarrier-allocation system performance has seldom been assessed, especially in terms of the call blocking probability (CBP ...

Call Admission Control for Non-Standalone 5G Ultra-Dense Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
—In this letter, we propose new handoff schemes to reduce the interruption time that occurs during re-connection of an arriving mobile user moving from macrocell to small cell or from small cell to macrocell domains. A new call admission control (CAC)

Auditory–Tactile Congruence for Synthesis of Adaptive Pain Expressions in RoboPatients

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this work, we explore auditory–tactile congruence for synthesizing adaptive vocal pain expressions in robopatients. Using a robopatient platform that integrates vocal pain sounds with palpation forces, we conducted 7680 trials across 20 participants.

A connection-level call admission control using genetic algorithm for MultiClass multimedia services in wireless networks

open access: yes, 2006
Call admission control in a wireless cell in a personal communication system (PCS) can be modeled as an M/M/C/C queuing system with m classes of users. Semi-Markov Decision Process (SMDP) can be used to optimize channel utilization with upper bounds on ...

Magnetic Micro‐ and Nanorobots for Precision Thrombolysis: Design Strategies and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Micro‐ and nanorobots for targeted thrombolysis. This perspective elaborates on the clinical indication of blood clot disorders and current limitations for treatment. As a novel, alternative solution, micro‐ and nanorobots can be used to treat and break down thrombi.

Evaluation of Pricing Strategies of Elastic Traffic on a Single Communication Link

open access: yesCommunications, 2001
The future integrated service networks supporting multiple traffic classes will require customized admission control and bandwidth sharing strategies, which meet the diverse needs of QoS (Quality of Service)-assured (stream) and best-effort (elastic ...

Simulative analysis of end-to-end call-blocking probability evaluation techniques in multi-rate loss networks

open access: yes, 1996
For the: end-to-end call blocking probability computation in multi-rate loss networks the so called reduced load approximation under link independence assumption is often used, because it allows the derivation of analytical and numerical results. However,

Paternal Circadian Disruption Impairs Offspring Cognition via Sperm microRNAs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Paternal circadian disruption remodels the sperm small RNA payload, elevating miR‐92a‐3p/miR‐25‐3p levels and perturbing early embryonic gene regulatory programs. Microinjection experiments and single‐embryo transcriptomics reveal sex‐specific developmental vulnerabilities, ultimately impairing offspring hippocampal synaptic plasticity and cognition ...

Blocking Probability and Channel Assignment in Wireless Networks

open access: yes, 2008
— We consider a multi-hop wireless network with a connection-oriented traffic model and multiple transmission channels that can be spatially re-used. In such a network the blocking probability of a call that makes a channel request depends on (a) the ...
