Steroidogenesis in the blue crab Callinectes sapidus Rathbun
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1971Abstract When radioactive progesterone was incubated with homogenates of androgenic glands from blue crabs, radioactive 20α-hydroxyprogesterone, Δ4-androstenedione, testosterone, and 11-deoxycorticosterone were formed. Per gram tissue the androgenic gland converted more radioactive progesterone to radioactive testosterone and 11-deoxycorticosterone ...

Subunit structure and dissociation of Callinectes sapidus hemocyanin
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1981The hemocyanin of the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus has two major components sedimenting with approximate sedimentation coefficients of 17 S and 25 S. Molecular weight data based on light scattering and sedimentation equilibrium measurements at pH 7.8 suggest that the two components have molecular weights of approximately 450 000 and 900 000 in the ...

Hemocyanin synthesis in the blue crab callinectes sapidus
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 19931. The synthesis of hemocyanin in the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, was investigated by molecular techniques. 2. Polyadenylated mRNA was prepared from the hepatopancreas and translated in rabbit reticulocyte lysate. 3. Translation products were immunoprecipitated with immobilized antihemocyanin IgG.

Shell disease of the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1967Abstract A previously undescribed shell disease of unknown cause, of the American blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, was investigated morphologically, histologically, and bacteriologically. The disease manifested itself by a superficial necrosis of the exoskeleton that progressed from sparsely localized spots into widely necrotized areas.
