A detailed description of laboratory reared first zoea larva of Callinectes danae Smith, 1869 is given. The larvae utilized for this study were reared in vitro in a special incubator. A comparison with larvae of other species is also attempted.

The portunid crab Callinectes danae is abundant in Brazilian estuaries and coastal areas and is an important item to artisanal fisheries. This study investigated the distribution and population structure by sex and size, the size at sexual maturity, and sex-ratio of the species in Vitoria Bay, Espirito Santo, southeastern Brazil.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the trophic ecology of loggerhead turtles recorded stranded along the Paraná coast in southern Brazil. Carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes were analysed in muscle tissues from 20 loggerhead turtles and in 69 specimens representing 12 prey species (molluscs, crustaceans and teleost fishes).

Studies on the growth of the blue crab C. danae were carried out by the analysis of size-frequency distributions, and the growth curves were determined for both sexes through Bertalanffy equation. 613 males and 511 females were obtained from 10 collecting sites of the lagoon, at night, monthly from January/88 to July/89.

O estudo comparativo das soluções preconisadas na perfusão cardíaca de crustáceos marinhos conduz aos seguintes resultados: 1º - a solução perfusora elaborada na base da concentração mineral do sangue total de Callinectes danae não ocasiona alterações no rítmo nem da freqüência dos batimentos cardíacos dêste Decápodo.
