Anthropogenic sounds differentially affect amphibian call rate

Biological Conservation, 2005
The effects of airplane flyby noise and playbacks of low-frequency motorcycle sounds on calling activity were examined in a mixed-species anuran calling assemblage in central Thailand. In response to these stimuli, three of the most acoustically active pond-edge species (Microhyla butleri, Rana nigrovittata and Kaloula pulchra) significantly decreased ...

Preappointment Surveys and Reminder Calls to Improve Show Rate

The American Journal of Managed Care, 2022
To assess the impact of preappointment surveys and reminder phone calls on show rate and time spent in new patient appointments at a multidisciplinary pediatric chronic pain clinic. We examined show rates and appointment length during the 1-year period before and 1-year period after a preappointment survey and phone reminders were implemented.

Calling to the collective: contact calling rates within groups of disc-winged bats do not vary by kinship or association

Rating the Severity of Close-Call Events

Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, 2004
Accidents rarely happen; close calls (“near misses”) are much more prevalent. So learning from close-calls is statistically more feasible. This paper describes a new technique for rating, or having a computer help to rate, the relative severity of close-call events.

Alert calls of male Red-winged Blackbirds: call rate and function

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1991
Male Red-winged Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) give alert calls continuously while on their breeding territories. To investigate the possibility that their rate of calling encodes information about distance to predators or degree of danger associated with different predators, I conducted experiments in which males were presented with stuffed ...

Changes in call rate of Woodhouse's toad in response to synthetic calls

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1984
Woodhouse's toad (Bufo woodhousei), in contrast to many other anurans, has one all-purpose call used by the male to attract females as well as to announce his presence to competing males. The call has a pulse rate of about 160 per second and a dominant frequency of about 1500 Hz.

Benactyzine increases alarm call rates in the squirrel monkey

Psychopharmacology, 1986
The effects of benactyzine (0.01-3.0 mg/kg) were examined on the frequency of alarm calls of squirrel monkeys in a laboratory setting. Under baseline conditions, few calls occurred, and neither saline nor a low dose (0.01 mg/kg) of benactyzine increased calling.

Impact of Resident Call Eligibility on Major Discrepancy Rate

Academic Radiology, 2010
The Resident Review Committee (RRC) recently changed the policy concerning first-year resident call. Our study is intended to evaluate whether the additional 6 months of training before a resident's first call made a significant difference in the resident's ability to provide patient care.
