Ecdysteroid receptors of the blowfly Calliphora vicina [PDF]

open access: bronzeEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1989
Ecdysteroids, the molting hormones of arthropods, act like vertebrate steroid hormones by binding to an intracellular receptor protein. We have recently isolated a protein from nuclei of blowfly larvae which has satisfied the requirements of an ecdysteroid receptor.

Impact of Comingled Heterospecific Assemblages on Developmentally Based Estimates of the Post-Mortem Interval—A Study with Lucilia sericata (Meigen), Phormia regina (Meigen) and Calliphora vicina Robineau-Desvoidy (Diptera: Calliphoridae) [PDF]

open access: yesInsects, 2021
Estimates of the minimum post-mortem interval (mPMI) using the development rate of blow flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae) are common in modern forensic entomology casework.

Structural colour and photonic mechanisms in the blow flies Calliphora vicina and Lucilia richardsi (Diptera: Calliphoridae) [PDF]

open access: goldJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications
Structural colours in natural organisms are created by complex photonic architectures giving rise to remarkable visual appearances. In arthropods, these structures are usually made of biopolymers and comprise photonic crystals. They are often iridescent,

Unexpected Evolutionary Divergence of Tachykinin‐Positive Neurons Innervating the Central Complex in Hexapods [PDF]

open access: yesJ Comp Neurol
The central complex is a group of midline‐spanning neuropils in the brain of insects with a key role in goal‐directed orientation and navigation. Immunolabeling in 25 species, ranging from bristletails to flies, shows that neurons containing peptides of the tachykinin family of neuropeptides are present in most species studied.

Variability of the morphometric features of Calliphora vicina (Diptera, Calliphoridae) under the varying and constant micro-climatic condi-tions

open access: goldVìsnik Dnìpropetrovsʹkogo Unìversitetu: Serìâ Bìologìâ, Ekologìâ, 2013
Variability of the main morphometric features of imago flies Calliphora vicina R.-D. (Diptera, Calliphoridae) of two samples was studied. First sample consists of individuals caught in the wild (park ecosystems of Dnipropetrovsk), the second one ...
