The cell cycle time of the haemocytes in the insect Calliphora vicina

The cell cycle time of Calliphora vicina prohaemocytes was examined using the labelled mitoses method after the administration of a pulse of H3-thymidine. The total cycle time occupied 9.1 hr, while G1 + 12M, S and G2 + 12M occupied 1.6 hr, 2.7 hr and 4.8 hr respectively.

Purification of Prophenoloxidase in the Haemolymph ofCalliphora vicina(R. & D.)

An improved method for the purification of prophenoloxidase is described. The proenzyme was purified 400 fold in homogenous form. The purity was tested by disc-electrophoresis and the molecular weight was found to be 87 000 in comparison to the mobility of marker enzymes, which were run simultaneously in SDS-gel electrophoresis.

[Functional morphology of blowfly Calliphora vicina hemocytes].

In the hemolymph of Calliphora seven types of hemocytes were revealed. These are prohemocytes, which are the stem cells, stable and unstable hyaline cells, thrombocytoids, spindle cells, juvenile plasmatocytes and plasmatocytes I-IV, which represent sequential stages of one cell line differentiation were registered.

On the metabolic fate of ecdysone and 3-dehydroecdysone in Calliphora vicina

Abstract The metabolism of ecdysone in white prepupae of Calliphora vicina is analysed. Ecdysone is hydroxylated to ecdysterone with a half-life of 2 hours. Both hormones are then converted into more polar products with a half-life of 12 hours. As a side reaction both ecdysone and ecdysterone are oxidized to 3-dehydroproducts.

Structural and functional aspects of sense organs on the maxillary palps of Calliphora vicina

Abstract The maxillary palps of the blowfly Calliphora vicina Robineau-Desvoidy are shown to bear, in addition to long mechanoreceptive hairs, small sensilla basiconica ccontaining three neurons. The electrical responses obtained with a simple qualitative olfactometer indicate an olfactory function.
