Ecdysteroid receptors of the blowfly Calliphora vicina [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1989
Ecdysteroids, the molting hormones of arthropods, act like vertebrate steroid hormones by binding to an intracellular receptor protein. We have recently isolated a protein from nuclei of blowfly larvae which has satisfied the requirements of an ecdysteroid receptor.

Neuromuscular control of aerodynamic forces and moments in the blowfly,Calliphora vicina [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2004
SUMMARYFlies are among the most agile of flying insects, a capacity that ultimately results from their nervous system's control over steering muscles and aerodynamic forces during flight. In order to investigate the relationships among neuromuscular control, musculo-skeletal mechanics and flight forces, we captured high-speed, three-dimensional wing ...

Incorporation of calliphorin into the cuticle of the developing blowfly, Calliphora vicina

open access: yesRoux's Archives of Developmental Biology, 1986
The stage-specific appearance of calliphorin in cuticles of Calliphora vicina was analysed by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and immunoblotting. The fate of the protein, injected into last instar larvae, was pursued by autoradiography of histological sections.

Estimation de l’âge de la nymphe de Calliphora vicina, Calliphora vomitoria et Lucilia sericata par l’observation de caractères morphologiques externes (Diptera, Calliphoridae)

open access: yes, 2013
Estimating the age of the nymph of Calliphora vicina, C. vomitoria and Lucilia sericata by observing external morphological characters (Diptera, Calliphoridae). The authors propose to sequence the evolution of the nympha based upon external morphological

Postembryonic development of the predatory strike mechanics in a praying mantis (Insecta: Mantodea)

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 377-396, September 2026.
Praying mantis forelegs capture prey using specific kinematic and kinetic traits that change in size and morphology during postembryonic growth and sexual dimorphism influences these dynamics. Strike forces grow hyperallometrically with body weight; larger mantises show longer strike durations, slower joint angular velocities and increased tibia ...

Variability of the morphometric features of Calliphora vicina (Diptera, Calliphoridae) under the varying and constant micro-climatic condi-tions

open access: yesVìsnik Dnìpropetrovsʹkogo Unìversitetu: Serìâ Bìologìâ, Ekologìâ, 2013
Variability of the main morphometric features of imago flies Calliphora vicina R.-D. (Diptera, Calliphoridae) of two samples was studied. First sample consists of individuals caught in the wild (park ecosystems of Dnipropetrovsk), the second one ...

Determination of Calliphoridae (Insecta: Diptera) Succession on Pig Carcasses in Central Anatolia, Turkey

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research in Natural and Applied Sciences, 2023
Insects function as a biological clock in determining the time elapsed after death which is also called minimum postmortem interval (PMImin). Particularly, Calliphoridae family members are the first colonizers.

Expansion of invasive carabids across elevation and habitats on sub‐Antarctic South Georgia

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 812-827, July 2026.
Two introduced carabid species have continued to expand their ranges on the sub‐Antarctic island of South Georgia over the past 10–15 years. The species have colonised inland valleys and are present across habitats but are more abundant in those with high vegetation cover. N‐mixture models revealed the optimal sampling method, intensity and habitat for
