A Differential Emissivity Calorimeter
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1969A calorimeter utilizing a differential emissivity thermopile to measure directly the radiant heat exchange of small animals is described. Other modes of heat exchange are effectively eliminated by containing the animal in an infrared transparent container. Noise on low level signals is minimal due to a special heat sink design.

Neutron dosimetry with a calorimeter
Physics in Medicine & Biology, 1974A calorimeter has been used to measure the absorbed dose in tissue from a beam of fast neutrons. The calorimeter is of the twin type and is made of tissue-equivalent plastic. The calorimeter was calibrated electrically using the electrical resistivity of the plastic.

The CMS electromagnetic calorimeter
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2004The CMS electromagnetic calorimeter aims at providing high precision calorimetry at the large madron collider (LHC). It consists of about 75.000 lead tungstate (PbWO4) crystals that have to operate reliably for at least 10 years, in a high radiation environment.

In this contribution we present our latest results concerning the development of BaF2 calorimeters for experiments at the future large hadron colliders (LHC, SSC, and ELOISATRON). We are elaborating electromagnetic calorimeters made of BaF2 crystals preceded by a BaF2 preshower counter with a high granularity.

The ALICE electromagnetic calorimeter
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2010ALICE is the general purpose experiment at the LHC dedicated to the study of heavy-ion collisions. The electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCal) is a late addition to the ALICE suite of detectors with first modules installed in ALICE this year. The EMCal is designed to trigger on high energy gamma-rays and jets, and to enhance the capabilities of ALICE for ...
