Anatomy of the Calot's triangle and its relevance to laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

open access: yesCeylon Medical Journal, 2014
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has now become the gold standard treatment for symptomatic gall-stone dis ease (1). Injury to the common bile duct (CBD) is the major complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Use of di athermy or clips to control bleeding in the Calot's triangle is recognised as one of the commonest causes of CBD injury (2).

Prospective study of intraoperative and post-operative complications during laparoscopic cholecystectomy among patients presenting with acute calculous cholecystitis

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2023
Background: Acute cholecystitis was initially thought to be a contraindication for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Now, as the experience is increasing, laparoscopic surgeons are gradually undertaking laparoscopic cholecystectomy as the preferred procedure

Dietitian‐led very low‐calorie diet for preoperative rehabilitation in patients with obesity awaiting non‐bariatric elective laparoscopic surgery: A retrospective study

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, Volume 41, Issue 3, Page 892-904, June 2026.
Abstract Background Obesity increases the risks and complexity of laparoscopic surgeries. Preoperative very low‐calorie diets (VLCDs) can demonstrate significant preoperative weight loss. However, the optimal VLCD duration remains unclear. Excessive loss of muscle mass associated with VLCDs may elevate surgical and postoperative risks. This study aimed

Educational Impact of Artificial Intelligence‐Navigation Surgery on Anatomical Landmark Recognition in Medical Students

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, Volume 10, Issue 3, Page 843-850, May 2026.
This study evaluated the educational impact of artificial intelligence (AI)‐navigation surgery that provides real‐time anatomical landmark recognition during laparoscopic cholecystectomy for medical students. Thirty students were randomized into surgeon‐guided, self‐learning, and AI‐learning groups, and their performance was assessed using Dice ...

Study of variations in origin and course of cystic artery in relation to Calot’s triangle

open access: yesNepal Medical College Journal, 2022
Calot’s triangle is an anatomical space and also known as “triangle of cholecystectomy”. It is bounded medially by Common hepatic duct, laterally by cystic duct, and superiorly by the under surface of liver and its main contain is Cystic artery. Validation of the Safe Application of Tokyo Guideline 2018 (TG18) Severity Grading and Treatment Algorithm in Super‐Elderly Patients Aged 85 and Over With Acute Cholecystitis: A Study in the Japanese Tertiary Care Hospital

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, Volume 10, Issue 2, Page 570-577, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background With population aging and extended healthy life expectancy, the management of acute cholecystitis (AC) in patients aged ≥ 85 years has evolved. However, the Tokyo Guidelines 2018 (TG18) for AC provide no specific risk assessment criteria for this population.

Cholecystocolonic Fistula Associated With Advanced Mirizzi Syndrome Causing Chronic Diarrhea: Successful Treatment Using Cholangioscopy‐Guided Lithotripsy and Surgery

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastrointestinal Medicine, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Cholecystocolonic fistula (CCF) is a rare complication of advanced Mirizzi syndrome (MS) and often presents with chronic watery diarrhea due to abnormal bile entry into the colon. The optimal role of endoscopic treatment in MS with CCF remains uncertain.
