When Raptors Are Away, Opossums Will Play: Woolly Opossums as Carrion Feeders in Harpy Eagle Nests
Biotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.Scavenging by New World marsupials is rarely documented. We recorded woolly opossums (Caluromys lanatus) scavenging prey remains from a Harpy eagle’s nest in central Brazil. The low overlap in activity periods between the two species may facilitate the behavior observed here.
