The effects of maternal calving date and calving interval on growth performance of beef calves

This study was undertaken to investigate the growth performance of calves born to dams with different calving dates and calving intervals. Early calving dams produced calves with the lowest birth weights, the highest actual weaning weights and the highest pre-breeding heifer weights.

CATTLEMEN HAVE OBSERVED that calves dropped early in the calving season arc heavier at weaning and more profitable than calves dropped late in the calving season. Animal scientists have pointed out that weaning weight is the result of age at weaning and average daily gain from birth to weaning.

出生直後から異常な呼吸速迫を示した牛新生子の多数例において, 著明な赤血球の変形が認められた. これらの呼吸速迫例は500~1,000mlの輸血により速やかに好転, 回復した. 本症は, 体温変化のないこと, 肺聴診で異常がないこと, さらに赤血球の形態異常などから, 肺炎との識別が可能であった.

Infectious diarrhea in calves is most commonly associated with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, Cryptosporidium parvum, rotavirus, coronavirus, or some combination of these pathogens. SUMMARYInjections of virus in calves up to about 5 weeks of age caused either the production of both IgM and IgG, or the production of only IgG, or no detectable antibody. In all but one case priming for a secondary response occurred even in the absence of a detectable primary response.
