Association between age at first calving, year and season of first calving and milk production in Holstein cows

open access: yesAnimal, 2013
The effects of first calving (FC) in Holstein heifers on their first lactation, second lactation and lifetime milk production were examined from an initial database of 459 743 animals that first calved between 1 January 1990 and 31 July 2010 in Wallonia,

Reproductive performance of early- and late-calving dairy cows artificially inseminated after ovulation synchronization and estrous resynchronization or artificially inseminated after observed estrus

open access: yesJDS Communications, 2021
Within seasonal dairy systems, cows that calve late in the calving season are less likely to become pregnant and maintain a yearly calving interval. Very few studies have examined effective strategies for reproductive management of these late-calving ...

Analysis of Relationship between Production and Reproduction Traits of Holstein Cattle Population in the Slovak Republic

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
Is generally known there is antagonistic relationship between production and reproduction traits. We observed this relationship in dataset of 1 197 478 daily milk records of Holstein cows on the first lactation only, first time calved during years 2003 ...

Prolonged Calving Intervals in the Nili Ravi buffalo

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2010
The optimal calving interval for dairy buffaloes is found to be 12 to 13 months. The losses due to prolonged calving interval are amounted to one USA dollar per extra day of optimal calving interval.

Ages at Calving and Calving Intervals for Dairy Cattle in the United States

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1989
Abstract Calving ages and intervals for cows first calving in 1966 to 1986 were examined for five dairy cattle breeds. For parities one through seven, mean age at each parity was lowest for Jerseys and highest for Ayrshires and Brown Swiss. Registered cows usually were older than grades for a specific parity.

The effects of maternal calving date and calving interval on growth performance of beef calves

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Animal Science, 2000
This study was undertaken to investigate the growth performance of calves born to dams with different calving dates and calving intervals. Early calving dams produced calves with the lowest birth weights, the highest actual weaning weights and the highest pre-breeding heifer weights.
