Seasonal variation in passive transfer of immunoglobulin G1 to newborn calves

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1983
SUMMARY Forty-eight-hour serum concentrations of immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) were determined for 123 female calves born on 1 farm during a 12-month period and fed 2.8 L of colostrum by esophageal feeder within 2 hours of birth. Mean monthly serum IgG1 concentrations were lowest in the winter, and increased during the spring and early summer to reach their

Seroprevalence of Dictyocaulus viviparus in first grazing season calves in Sweden

Veterinary Parasitology, 2004
A serological survey was carried out to determine the prevalence and geographical distribution of Dictyocaulus viviparus in calves after their first grazing season in Sweden. A total of 754 animals from 76 randomly selected herds in seven geographical regions were examined between September 24 and December 19, 2001.

Seasonal pattern of inhibition of Ostertagia ostertagi in calves in northeast Mississippi

Veterinary Parasitology, 1996
The composition of, and seasonal changes in, populations of gastrointestinal parasites of calves in northeast Mississippi were determined for 10 months post-weaning. After weaning on 15 October, 20 mixed breed beef steers were grazed together on a 4 ha fescue/bermudagrass pasture.

Seasonal variation in resistance of calves to experimental infections with Cooperia oncophora

Veterinary Parasitology, 1982
Over a period of nine years, ten experiments were conducted on Cooperia oncophora infections in calves. A total of 327 calves were infected, each with a single dose of 100 000 infective larvae. The large variation between experiments in the faecal egg output of calves appeared to be related to the time of year at infection.

Effects of seasonal and climate variations on calves’ thermal comfort and behaviour

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2013
The aim of this study was to measure the effect of season and climate variations on thermal comfort and behaviour of 6-month-old dairy calves housed in a semi-opened shelter to develop animal-based indicators for assessing animal thermal comfort. The ultimate purpose was to further exploit the use of those indicators to prevent thermal stress by ...

Regression Techniques for Modelling Conception in Seasonally Calving Dairy Cows

2016 IEEE 16th International Conference on Data Mining Workshops (ICDMW), 2016
Reproductive performance is important for the economic efficiency of pasture-based dairy farms. In these seasonal calving systems, a concise period of breeding is essential to ensure the alignment of peak grass availability with peak lactating cow energy demands. Trials and statistical analysis have identified the factors affecting overall reproductive

Seasonal variations of antipyrine pharmacokinetics parameters in calves.

Archivum veterinarium Polonicum, 1993
In the experiment the values of parameters of antipyrine kinetics were defined (Vd - volume of distribution, t0.5 - half-life, CA - metabolic clearance) in calves in January, April, July and October 1986 and in January and July 1987. Statistically significant increase of distribution volume and increase of hepatic antipyrine clearance were recorded, as

THE EFFECT OF THE CALVING SEASON ON THE DAIRY PRODUCTIVITY OF COWS

SCIENTIFIC LIFE
The article examines the influence of the calving season on the productivity of first-time cows of the red steppe breed in farming conditions. It was found that the calving season has a significant impact on the value of milk yields: the better and more uniform the feeding and maintenance of animals during the entire lactation period, the higher the ...
