Control Authority of a Camber Morphing Flying Wing
Journal of Aircraft, 2020Flying wings achieve their roll, pitch, and yaw controllability exclusively through spanwise variations of lift and drag due to the lack of an empennage.

Dynamic Aeroelastic Response of Camber Morphing Aircraft
ASME 2023 Aerospace Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2023Abstract Morphing technology has been intensively studied in the last decades. Camber morphing is one of the most popular and effective types of morphing, and its aerodynamic advantages have been demonstrated. Although its aeroelasticity has been studied in previous research, the coupling between its aeroelasticity and the flight ...

A bio-inspired, active morphing skin for camber morphing structures
Smart Materials and Structures, 2015In this study, one kind of developed morphing skin embedded with pneumatic muscle fibers (PMFs) was manufactured and was employed for camber morphing structures. The output force and contraction of PMF as well as the morphing skin were experimentally characterized at a series of discrete actuator pressures varying from 0.15 to 0.35 MPa.

Use of XFOIL in design of camber‐controlled morphing UAVs
Computer Applications in Engineering Education, 2012AbstractThe standard curriculum for Aerospace Engineering students at the University of Cincinnati includes AEEM361 Integrated Aircraft Engineering. The goal of this course is to instruct students in the tools and methodology of aircraft design. The integrated aspects of aircraft design are underscored by introducing pre‐junior (between sophomore and ...

Variable Camber Morphing Wings
2016Abstract : This project is inserted within the scope of the technology of morphing aircrafts. Specifically, the research team investigated, in a multidisciplinary framework, the design methodology of variable camber morphing wings based on the use of active materials, namely piezoelectric materials and shape memory alloys.

Camber Controlled Airfoil Design for Morphing UAV
47th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including The New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2009Morphing technology, inspired by bat and bird flight, can enable an aircraft to adapt its shape to best suit the flight condition thereby enhancing mission performance. In this paper, we propose a camber change for the morphing of airfoils with the aim of improving aerodynamic efficiency.

Parametric structural modelling of fish bone active camber morphing aerofoils [PDF]
Camber morphing aerofoils have the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of fixed and rotary wing aircraft by providing significant lift control authority to a wing, at a lower drag penalty than traditional plain flaps.

Development and Testing of a Corrugated Skin for a Camber Morphing Aerofoil
23rd AIAA/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference, 2015This work presents the development and testing of a corrugated skin for the Fish Bone Active Camber (FishBAC) morphing airfoil concept. This novel biologically inspired morphing structure consists of a compliant skeletal core composed of a thin chord wise bending beam with periodic stringers, a compliant external skin structure and an actuation ...
