Anatomy of stem and root of Ipomoea cairica (L.) Sweet (Convolvulaceae) - the Lianescent Vascular Syndrome

open access: yesBalduinia, 2021
Anatomy of stem and root of Ipomoea cairica (L.) Sweet (Convolvulaceae) the Lianescent Vascular Syndrome. Among the Ipomoea species of economic importance, the liana Ipomoea cairica stands out because of its great pharmacological potential.

Cambial Variations of Three Lianoid Genera, Akebia, Stauntonia, and Sabia (Lardizabalaceae and Sabiaceae), in Taiwan

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Plant Sciences, 2019
Descriptions of the cambial variants of the lianoids in two families, Lardizabalaceae and Sabiaceae, were lacking in Taiwan. This study aimed to diagnose the stem characteristics of seven lianoid species from these two families to update existing ...

Climate Change Has Already Reshaped North American Forest Pest Dynamics: Insights From Multidecadal Process‐Based Modelling

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, EarlyView.
Climate change has rapidly expanded and shifted suitable climate conditions for eight major forest pests across North America, especially toward northern and higher elevation areas. Host exposure and overlap among pests are increasing, raising ecological and economic risks, and signaling accelerating future impacts under continued warming.

Stem anatomy and ontogeny of vascular variants in Ipomoea asarifolia (Desr.) Roem. & Schult. (Convolvulaceae)

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
An increase in stem thickness and ontogeny of successive cambia, intraxylary cambium, and inter‐and intraxylary phloem is elaborated for the first time in Ipomoea asarifolia (Desr.) Roem. & Schult. (Convolvulaceae). As the plants grew older, several small segments of cambium were initiated simultaneously external to the phloem formed by regular ...

Below the leaves: Integrating above‐ and below‐ground phenology for earth‐system predictability

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Almost every aspect of biological systems has phenology—a pattern in activity or function linked to annual cycles. Most terrestrial phenology research focusses on leaves, the onset of leaf out or senescence.

12 years of assembly patterns in saproxylic beetles suggest early decay wood as ephemeral resource patch

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We reveal that early stages of deadwood decomposition follow ecological rules of ephemeral resource patches. By tracking beetle communities over 12 years, we show how decomposition dynamics shape community assembly patterns, highlighting the importance of continuous deadwood input for sustaining saproxylic beetles in temperate forests.

Tree growth response and adaptation to climate change and climate extremes: From canopy to stem

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes the responses and adaptations of tree growth, including canopy phenology, intra‐annual wood formation dynamics, and annual stem growth, to climate change and climate extremes. It highlights key knowledge gaps for future research to support sustainable forest management and enhance forest carbon storage under ongoing climate ...

PEP725: 15 years of driving European and global phenology science

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Phenology – the timing of seasonal biological events – is a sensitive indicator of climate change and ecosystem dynamics. Long‐term, broad‐scale phenological data are crucial for understanding and predicting plant responses to environmental change.
