Regulation of Cambium Activity

2021
The continued widening of the plant axis is a result of cell division activity of the lateral vascular meristem, namely, the cambium and the differentiation of secondary vascular tissues. The cambium produces new cells that build the secondary xylem (the wood) and secondary phloem tissues which increase the thickness of stems and roots.

Winter Injury to Grapevine Secondary Phloem and Cambium Impairs Budbreak, Cambium Activity, and Yield Formation

Journal of Plant Growth Regulation, 2019
Vitis vinifera is a species of temperate origin that reactivates the dormant secondary phloem from the previous year at the resumption of growth in spring. Following harsh winters, grapevines may display a set of symptoms including delayed and heterogeneous budbreak, dieback with shoot renewal from the trunk base or sudden death of the plant.

Defining the Cambium

1994
The terms cambial cell, cambial fiber, mother cell, and tissue mother cell were often employed in a nonspecific sense with reference to the cambium by early investigators. At times, one of these terms might be confined to the dividing cell(s), and at other times it might include derivative cells.

Structure and functions of the vascular cambium

Comptes Rendus de l'Académie des Sciences - Series III - Sciences de la Vie, 1999
Following a general outline on the functioning of the cambium, the authors review the data acquired over the last 20 years. The interest is focused on: i) the ultrastructural characteristics of the two kinds of initials; ii) the early structural, metabolic and molecular modifications occurring during the first stages of daughter cell differentiation ...
