Mycophagous behavior by small mammals observed through camera traps in a riparian forest fragment in Southwestern São Paulo, Brazil

open access: yesLilloa
Macrofungi play a crucial role in forest ecosystems by decomposing organic matter and influencing nutrient dynamics. They are characterized by the production of visible reproductive structures known as sporomes, commonly referred to as mushrooms ...

Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.

Modeling and Mapping Coyote (Canis latrans) Abundance in Northwestern Vermont [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Predators such as, coyotes (Canis latrans), have profound effects on ecosystems. Coyotes are recent arrivals in the northeastern United States of America, and in Vermont their ecology remains poorly understood.

Large‐Area 2D Metasurface‐Based Triboelectric E‐Skin Arrays: Contact & Proximity Tactile Mapping with Broadband Acoustic Readouts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurface‐engineered NC‐TENG arrays integrate tactile pressure mapping, non‐contact gesture sensing, and acoustic signal readouts in one ultrathin module, and outperforms pristine PDMS in terms of electrical output and real‐time spatial mapping for next‐gen wearables.

Can edge AI mitigate environmental effects on camera trap performance?

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin
Abiotic and biotic conditions can affect camera trap performance, and failure to account for environmental factors can bias wildlife research and management inferences modeled from camera trap data. We investigated whether a camera trap enabled with edge

All‐Optical Reconfigurable Physical Unclonable Function for Sustainable Security

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐optical reconfigurable physical unclonable function (PUF) is demonstrated using plasmonic coupling–induced sintering of optically trapped gold nanoparticles, where Brownian motion serves as a robust entropy source. The resulting optical PUF exhibits high encoding density, strong resistance to modeling attacks, and practical authentication ...

Hierarchically Engineered Multi‐Enzyme Nanoreactors for in vitro Drug Biosynthesis and Pathway Transplantation Into Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchically structured metal–organic framework (eMIL) is shown to host the complete six‐enzyme biosynthesis pathway for the anti‐cancer pigment violacein, reshaping reaction dynamics and multiplying in vitro yields. eMIL nanoreactors deliver this reconstituted bacterial multi‐protein system into mammalian cells, where cell‐derived substrates and ...
