Texoskeletons: Developing the Fundamental Technologies for Creating Intelligent Soft Robotic Clothing With Integrated 1D Sensors and Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traditional wearable exoskeletons rely on rigid structures, which limit comfort, flexibility, and everyday usability. This work introduces the fundamental technologies to create the first soft, lightweight, intelligent textile‐based exoskeletons (Texoskeletons) built using 1D sensors and actuators.

Automated camera ranking and selection using video content and scene context

open access: yes, 2012
PhDWhen observing a scene with multiple cameras, an important problem to solve is to automatically identify “what camera feed should be shown and when?” The answer to this question is of interest for a number of applications and scenarios ranging from ...

Miniature mobile sensor platforms for condition monitoring of structures

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, a wireless, multisensor inspection system for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of materials is described. The sensor configuration enables two inspection modes-magnetic (flux leakage and eddy current) and noncontact ultrasound.

Coarse-Fine Convolutional Neural Network for Person Re-Identification in Camera Sensor Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In this paper, we present a novel deep model named coarse-fine convolutional neural network (CFCNN) for person re-identification in camera sensor networks, which jointly learns global and multi-scale local features simultaneously.

Chiral Phase Change Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates reversible, non‐volatile phase transitions in chiral Ge2${\rm Ge}_2$Sb2${\rm Sb}_2$Te5${\rm Te}_5$ (GST) nanohelices for high‐speed optical modulation of chirality and dynamic control of the state of polarization (SOP). The chiral nanostructures are fabricated using a highly directional, wafer‐scale physical vapor deposition ...

Electrocapillary Modulated Interfacial Tension Amplifies Liquid Metal Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presented an electrocapillary‐enhanced magnetohydrodynamic pumping strategy that harnesses the Lorentz force and interfacial tension modulation of liquid metal droplets to achieve amplified fluidic power. The system enabled low‐voltage, self‐oscillating fluidic transduction with enhanced pressure and flow generation, supporting compact ...

Heterogeneous sensor-based rotor attitude detection for a spherical motor using distributed Kalman filtering method

open access: yesAIP Advances
Permanent magnet spherical motors (PMSpMs) are new special motors with multiple degrees of freedom capability in a limited space. This paper proposes a heterogeneous sensor-based rotor attitude detection (RAD) approach for the PMSpM using the distributed

Controlled Engineering of 2D Alkali‐Iron‐Chloride Compounds and Lateral Quantum Heterostructures Within Confined Graphene Nanoreactors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a programmable atomic engineering strategy for 2D materials using Å‐scale nanoreactors formed by bilayer graphene (BLG) intercalation. A new class of alkali‐iron‐chloride compounds, along with lateral heterostructures composed of monolayer alkali halides and iron chlorides, is revealed.

Distributed partitioning strategies in camera network application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the first part we deal with the problem of patrolling a perimeter. We propose a distributed algorithm that assign to each camera a portion of the perimeter and converge to an equitable partition. Physical and covering constraints are kept into account.
