Energy Efficient Object Detection in Camera Sensor Networks
2017 IEEE 37th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS), 2017A wireless camera network can provide situation awareness information (e.g., humans in distress) in scenarios such as disaster recovery. If such camera sensors are battery operated, sending raw video feeds back to a central controller can be expensive in terms of energy consumption.

DSPcam: A camera sensor system for surveillance networks
2009 Third ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras (ICDSC), 2009Surveillance is emerging as a key application of camera networks. In this paper, we describe our wireless smart camera system called DSPcam designed for real-time surveillance purposes. DSPcam has a Blackfin processor, CMOS image sensor and 802.11 b/g communication module.

Achieving full-view coverage in camera sensor networks
ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks, 2013Camera sensors are different from traditional scalar sensors, as cameras at different positions can form very different views of the object. However, traditional coverage model does not consider this intrinsic property of camera sensors. To address this issue, a novel model called full-view coverage is proposed.

On Barrier Coverage in Wireless Camera Sensor Networks
2010 24th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications, 2010The paper proposed a distributed algorithm, namely CoBRA (Cone-based Barrier coveRage Algorithm), to achieve barrier coverage in wireless camera sensor networks (WCSNs). To the best understanding, CoBRA is the first algorithm which try to deal with the barrier coverage issue in WCSNs.

Localization-Oriented Coverage in Wireless Camera Sensor Networks
IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2011In this paper, we investigate the coverage problem from the perspective of target localization for wireless camera sensor networks. We first propose a novel localization-oriented sensing model based on the perspective projection of camera sensors.

Privacy and Trust in Smart Camera Sensor Networks
2015 10th International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security, 2015The emerging technologies of Smart Camera Sensor Networks (SCSN) are being driven by the social need for security assurance and analytical information. SCSN are deployed for protection and for surveillance tracking of potential criminals. A smart camera sensor does not just capture visual and audio information but covers the whole electromagnetic ...

Heuristics for lifetime maximization in camera sensor networks
Information Sciences, 2017Due to increasing threat perception and cheap availability of multimedia technologies, camera sensor networks are becoming more and more popular these days. Camera sensor networks pose some unique challenges in addition to the usual difficulties associated with any directional sensor network.

The case for multi--tier camera sensor networks
Proceedings of the 15th International Workshop on Network and Operating Systems Support for Digital Audio and Video, 2005In this position paper, we examine recent technology trends that have resulted in a broad spectrum of camera sensors, wireless radio technologies, and embedded sensor platforms with varying capabilities. We argue that future sensor applications will be hierarchical with multiple tiers, where each tier employs sensors with different characteristics.

Simultaneous Planning, Localization, and Mapping in a Camera Sensor Network
Robotics and Autonomous Systems, 2006In this paper we examine issues of localization, exploration, and planning in the context of a hybrid robot/camera-network system. We exploit the ubiquity of camera networks to use them as a source of localization data. Since the Cartesian position of the cameras in most networks is not known accurately, we consider the issue of how to localize such ...
