Ronald Reagan, Jesse Unruh and the California Gubernatorial Race, 1970 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This essay examines the 1970 gubernatorial race in California between incumbent Ronald Reagan and powerful California legislator Jesse Unruh. Most of the scholarship on this particular subject tends to revolve around Reagan\u27s first campaign for ...

Cortical Somatostatin Neurons Regulate Seizure Susceptibility via MINAR1/Gαs–cAMP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies MINAR1 as a novel regulator of cortical interneuron excitability and seizure susceptibility. MINAR1 is preferentially expressed in SST+ interneurons. Genetic ablation of MINAR1 leads to seizure hypersensitivity, reduced SST+ neuron excitability, and impaired Gαs–cAMP signaling, disrupting the E/I balance.

Calcium-independent contraction in lysed cell models of teleost retinal cones: activation by unregulated myosin light chain kinase or high magnesium and loss of cAMP inhibition. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The retinal cones of teleost fish contract at dawn and elongate at dusk. We have previously reported that we can selectively induce detergent-lysed models of cones to undergo either reactivated contraction or reactivated elongation, with rates and ...

IGFBP5 Restores Endometrial Receptivity and Rescues Implantation Failure in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Impaired endometrial receptivity contributes to the poor pregnancy outcomes in women with PCOS. The authors found that decreased endometrial IL‐22 levels and disrupted STAT3‐IGFBP5 signaling pathway contributed to impaired endometrial receptivity. Supplementation with IL‐22 or IGFBP5 exerts a protective effect on implantation failure in PCOS‐like mice,

Satirical Intermedialities in 'Springtime for Hitler' (1967) and 'If You Could See Her' (1972): a Comparative Study

open access: yesSyn-Thèses
Transgressing the boundaries of fiction and the real world, satire opens a dialogue between the aesthetic and political stakes of a work of art. A comparative analysis of “Springtime for Hitler” and “If You Could See Her”, comic songs from the 20th ...

A predictive computational model reveals that GIV/girdin serves as a tunable valve for EGFR-stimulated cyclic AMP signals. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Cellular levels of the versatile second messenger cyclic (c)AMP are regulated by the antagonistic actions of the canonical G protein → adenylyl cyclase pathway that is initiated by G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and attenuated by phosphodiesterases (

Systematically Engineering for Efficient Production of 3‐Methyl‐1‐Butanol in Escherichia coli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated metabolic engineering strategy was established for high‐level 3‐methyl‐1‐butanol biosynthesis in Escherichia coli. Molecular dynamics‐guided semi‐rational engineering of dihydroxyacid dehydratase uncovered and relieved key catalytic bottlenecks, while adaptive laboratory evolution enhanced strain robustness.

PVNCRF Neurons Regulate Migraine‐Like Allodynia by Activating CRFR2 on Spinal Trigeminal Caudalis Glutamatergic Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Paraventricular CRF neurons in the hypothalamus project to glutamatergic neurons of the spinal trigeminal caudal nucleus, enhancing neuronal activation and CRFR2 signaling. This pathway increases CRF release and excitatory drive, promoting central sensitization and migraine‐related behaviors. Targeting the PVN–SP5C circuit provides a potential strategy

Unresolved mystery of cyclic nucleotide second messengers, periplasmic acid phosphatases and bacterial natural competence

open access: yesMicrobial Cell
We recently characterized the competitive inhibition of cyclic AMP (cAMP) on three periplasmic acid phosphatases, AphAHi, NadNHi, and eP4 (HelHi), in Haemophilus influenzae Rd KW20. This inhibitory effect is vital for orchestrating the nutritional growth
