Abstract Effective fishery management policy depends on accurate life‐history data, particularly for harvested species. Longevity is a core life‐history trait that is directly related to annual survival and lifetime reproductive potential, but fish longevity is generally not well documented, particularly for long‐lived species.

Otolith‐based age determination in Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus 1758) from Lake Vistonida, NE Greece: A modified Crack and Burn protocol

Abstract This study presents a modified otolith preparation protocol to estimate the age of Anguilla from Lake Vistonida (NE Greece). In experimental attempts, 300 otoliths were processed using standard and modified eel ageing methods, producing low success rates (0%–20%) due to poor annuli visibility and structural damage.
