Tibial campaniform sensilla of Glossina morsitans

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1984
Abstract On the basis of behavioural tests and light microscopy, a pair of dome shaped sensilla occuring on the outer and inner surfaces of Glossina morsitans morsitans tibiae were considered to be sex pheromone receptors. Recent observations using electrophysiological tests and ultrastructural methods have revealed that those receptors have no ...

Load signalling by cockroach trochanteral campaniform sensilla

Brain Research, 1999
A major problem in sensory motor integration is to delineate how forces acting upon a leg are encoded and regulated in the control of posture and locomotion. We have studied responses of the trochanteral campaniform sensilla, the largest array of force detecting mechanoreceptors in the cockroach leg.

‘Campaniform-type’ Organs in Nematodes

Nature, 1963
CAMPANIFORM organs are common in insects1, where they have been demonstrated to act as proprioceptors2,3. Morphologically they show considerable variation but “In vertical section the cuticular parts of the organs generally have the form of a small dome into which the sense cell process is inserted like the clapper of a bell”1 and the structure of ...

Contrary to the Dutch pattern that considers Rhine Europe as the origin of the Bell Beaker culture, the author places the genesis of the maritime beaker in southern Europe, at the heart of Late Neolithic (or Chalcolithic) cultures. Towards the middle of the 3rd millennium ВС, two areas would thus be distinguished: on the one hand, a western ...

Le Campaniforme : phénomène et culture archéologique

Bulletin de la Société préhistorique française, 1998
Abstract The uniformity and wide distribution of the Bell Beaker have given rise to a whole series of different — and sometimes contradictory — interpretative models. It is therefore necessary to classify all the documentation on the basis of a precise definition and to reconsider its place within the Late Neolithic. C14 dates at present available show

Campaniform Sensilla on the Tactile Spines of the Legs of the Cockroach*

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1965
ABSTRACTThe failure to record receptor potentials from cut ends of the large tactile spines of the legs of the cockroach Periplaneta americana has prompted a histological and electrophysiological search for the sensory unit of these tactile spines. Histological sections, made with a cuticle-softening fixative containing tetrahydrofuran, and cleared ...

Proprioceptive indentation of the campaniform sensilla of cockroach legs

Journal of Comparative Physiology ? A, 1975
1. Individual proprioceptive campaniform sensilla of tibial Group 6 in the cockroachBlaberus discoidalis were stimulated by combinations of proprioceptive and punctate stimuli. 2. Punctate stimulation during a proprioceptive discharge increased the response rather than decreasing it, indicating that proprioceptive stimuli indent, rather ...
