The Campi Flegrei caldera: unrest mechanisms and hazards

open access: yesGeological Society, London, Special Publications, 2006
Abstract In the last four decades, Campi Flegrei caldera has been the world’s most active caldera characterized by intense unrest episodes involving huge ground deformation and seismicity, but, at the time of writing, has not culminated in an eruption.

A Phytochemical and Biological Characterization of Cynara cardunculus L. subsp. scolymus Cultivar “Carciofo di Procida”, a Traditional Italian Agri-Food Product (PAT) of the Campania Region

open access: yesMolecules
The artichoke (Cynara cardunculus L. subsp. scolymus) is an endemic perennial plant of the Mediterranean area commonly consumed as food. It is known since ancient times for its beneficial properties for human health, among which its antioxidant activity ...

Terpenoid Content of the Antarctic Soft Coral

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2009
Chemical investigation of the soft coral Alcyonium antarcticum, collected off Terra Nova Bay, resulted in the isolation of two closely related sesquiterpenes, alcyonicene (1) and deacetoxy-alcyonicene (2), along with known terpenoid compounds.

Poly(lactic acid)/Plasticizer/Nano-Silica Ternary Systems: Properties Evolution and Effects on Degradation Rate

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2023
Plasticized nanocomposites based on poly(lactic acid) have been prepared by melt mixing following a two-step approach, adding two different oligomeric esters of lactic acid (OLAs) as plasticizers and fumed silica nanoparticles.

Seismic Risk of Critical Transport Systems: Sensitivity Analysis of the Campania Railway Network to Bradyseism's Features

open access: yesRisk Analysis, Volume 46, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examines the impact of epistemic uncertainties on the seismic risk of a critical transport system, the Campania railway network, during the ongoing bradyseismic unrest at Campi Flegrei, south of Italy. Seismic risk is quantified as the length of the railway requiring post‐event inspection, an operational proxy for service disruption.

From land to sea: a new high-resolution bathymetry and topography of the Campi Flegrei area, Southern Italy

open access: yesJournal of Maps
Campi Flegrei is an active volcanic area located in the Campanian region (southern Italy). It is characterized by a caldera structure including a subaerial portion densely populated and a submarine area represented by the Gulf of Pozzuoli. Altimetry data

Capnophilic Lactic Fermentation from Thermotoga neapolitana: A Resourceful Pathway to Obtain Almost Enantiopure L-lactic Acid

open access: yesFermentation, 2019
The industrial production of lactic acid (LA) is mainly based on bacterial fermentation. This process can result in enantiopure or racemic mixture according to the producing organism.

A Psychosocial Analysis in a Context of Seismic and Volcanic Emergency: Well‐Being in the Campi Flegrei Area

open access: yesJournal of Community Psychology, Volume 54, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The Campi Flegrei area, one of the most active volcanic regions in Italy, has faced a prolonged crisis, characterized by recurring seismic events. By adopting a psychosocial and community‐based perspective, this study investigates how seismic and volcanic risk perception, perceived severity, trust in institutions and media, and coping ...

The Maddaloni/X-6 eruption stands out as one of the major events during the Late Pleistocene at Campi Flegrei

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
The Campi Flegrei caldera (Italy) is among the most productive volcanoes of the Mediterranean area. However, the volcanic history preceding the VEI 7 Campanian Ignimbrite eruption (~40 ka) is still poorly constrained.

Source Scaling of Shallow Volcano‐Tectonic Earthquakes at Piton de la Fournaise Volcano (La Réunion, France) Estimated From Codas of Seismograms

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Despite their importance for understanding faulting processes in volcanic environments, the source scaling of volcano‐tectonic earthquakes remains poorly constrained, mainly due to the difficulty of measuring their source parameters. We analyze source parameters such as seismic moments (M0 ${M}_{0}$) and corner frequencies (fc ${f}_{c}$) of ...
